Anti Walmart Propaganda

LOL I am visiting this anti-Walmart site and what a bunch of crapola this is.
There is an action center (!) where a list of things to do includes “How to Talk To A Walmart Worker”-doesn’t this sound stupid? It reminds me of some of those books for dummies-”The Internet For Dummies”…It makes Walmart employees look like idiots. If I were a Walmart employee, and I saw this site, I would be offended. A job is a job-some places are good to work for and others are not. Employment is all about choice. No one forces anyone to work, and certainly no one forces anyone to work at Walmart.
The first sentences one will read when getting to this site are:
Wal-Mart inundates its workers with misinformation and propaganda, especially with regards to their labor rights and unions. In order for them to exercise their democratic right to choose, workers need to know what their options are. While Wal-Mart has done everything in its power to ensure that its employees are insulated from all but the company line, the power of person to person interaction is unmistakable.
Isn’t this patronizing or what? Walmart inudates? People are not THAT stupid. People know when they are being fed a bucket of crap vs. truth. Walmart wants it’s employees to have pride. What business doesn’t? This is no crime and it is no different than anywhere else. Walmart employees are not dumb, as this entire section leads viewers to think.
Walmart has strategies designed to save consumers money. Thats what it’s all about. Many folks seem to think that an American business MUST pay it’s employees “good” wages in order to be a GOOD place to work. Most of these so called GOOD places go out of business because they cannot compete with other companies who do things better.
Like it or not, Walmart does it right. They cater to consumers who like to save money. If Walmart were to increase the pay of it’s workers, and pay more into the health care plans of it’s employees, we the consumer would see an increase in the prices of the goods being sold. We would take our business elsewhere. And Walmart would soon close up. One wonders what is better? A Walmart job or no job at all? I would take the job anyday over being unemployed.
Anyway at this foolishly incorrect site, we see a bleeb about how GM used to be the best place to work in America. Sure it did, and yes, the unions had a lot to do with it. Back in the old days auto workers NEEDED to belong to unions. Manufactures did take advantage of employees. But times changed and everyone was doing it better. The unions got greedy. They insisted on higher EVERYTHING (benefits) for the employees. What happened? The price of cars WENT UP. What happened? Americans looked to Japan-and bought cheaper, better built cars that were better with the environment, and used less gas. According to this site:
A half‑century ago, the biggest employer in the U.S. was General Motors. There was a saying, “What’s good for GM is good for America.” GM set a standard for other companies to aspire to: good wages, excellent health benefits, job security, and pensions for the workers who made the company the most profitable in the nation. The company didn’t give those things to workers. Workers — members of the United Auto Workers — fought hard for those standards, and they set a goal for other companies and their workers to aspire to.
No, this is incorrect history. GM ended up laying off mass numbers of employees, because GM just couldn’t compete. Its as simple as that. Orders for GM/American cars dropped sharply-because consumers could not afford them! The costs of higher wages and “better” benefits=cost many auto workers their own jobs. The union killed it’s own. It bit off the hand that fed it. Americans demanded better prices for autos; the government responded with trade deals with Japan…and consumers got better prices.
What is worse? A Walmart job or no job? What costs us more money? I think unions are bad for the economy, bad for workers, and bad for global prosperity.

Im going to have to disagree with one peice of this. “People are not THAT stupid. People know when they are being fed a bucket of crap vs. truth.” How else would you explain all the votes that Kerry got? I agree though, I like walmart.

:roll:Kerry duped all those people, and I really don’t think the people embraced him THAT MUCH. But he was the man-the Dems somehow chose him. If I were a Dem I would have written in Beavis or Butthead rather than vote for Kerry. LOL

general motors laid off tons of people because they were planning to outsource their labour to mexico.
mexico = CHEAP labour.
you obviously cant tell when theyre being fed a bunch of crap vs the truth, judging from this article.
and if thats even true, how do you explain the nazi movement anyway?

Is it now the world according to Karl Marx, from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs.
So Walmart make profits for their stockholders? So what? That’s what capitalism is all about.

A job is a job? People have the choice to work at Walmart? You must be insane, or wilfully ignorant of the facts. In more than 34 small towns in the US, Walmarts have put more than half of the local shops out of business, forcing folks to work at Walmart or not work at all. Bankruptcies are 24% higher among Walmart employees AFTER they come into the company than before; Walmart purposively hires more than 40% of their employees for 39 hours a week so as not to cover medical care. You say you support America, so why do you support this business that sells 82% goods made in China, taking thousands of manufacturing jobs away from hardworking American workers?? As usual, the right wing is all about socialism – for the RICH.

NO one is forced to work anywhere. I worked for those small town shops and stores and made (a lot) less money than any Walmart employee makes now. Walmart offers work hours that are designed for working moms-you know..those who want to work just a few hours a day to bring in some extra cash? Of course you probably don’t know too many moms like this. The local Walmarts in my area hire full time help all the time…and part time, casual worker hours. Not too many employers offer health insurance for part time workers. Get a grip on reality.
I don’t love Walmart, but I don’t think unions are the answer; and as always you and your lot have nothing to offer except mindless rhetoric.
