Guns and Hoses

Posted by Raven on February 14th, 2005

Got this in an email: It’s not accurate but it’s still funny and makes it’s point. Thanks to Drew & Robin for pointing that out.

Marine Corp’s General Reinwald was interviewed on the radio the other day and you have to read his reply to the lady who interviewed him concerning guns and children. Regardless of how you feel about gun laws you gotta love this!!!! This is one of the best comeback lines of all time. It is a portion of National Public Radio (NPR) interview between a female broadcaster and US Marine Corps General Reinwald who was about to sponsor a Boy Scout Troop visiting his military installation.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER: So, General Reinwald, what things are you going to teach these young boys when they visit your base?

GENERAL REINWALD: We’re going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery, and shooting.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Shooting! That’s a bit irresponsible, isn’t it?

GENERAL REINWALD: I don’t see why, they’ll be properly supervised on the rifle range.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Don’t you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children?

GENERAL REINWALD: I don’t see how. We will be teaching them proper rifle discipline before they even touch a firearm.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER: But you’re equipping them to become violent killers.

GENERAL REINWALD: Well, you’re equipped to be a prostitute, but you’re not one, are you?

“How dare you teach teenagers how to drive. Don’t you know that 40,000 people are killed or seriously injured every year in automobile accidents?”

“Isn’t teaching kids to swim horribly irresponsible? I mean, you could drown out there in the water…”

“You’re teaching your children karate? Why would you do that? It’s best to teach your children how to avoid confrontation. If they are attacked, they should do whatever the agressor wants.”

“You’re teaching baseball? Don’t you know bats are dangerous?”

  2. Drew Says:

Great sentiments, but in this case, didn’t happen.

    Sorry.

  3. Raven Says:

Even if this isn’t true it’s still funny and it still makes a point.
Drew, did you get Cao’s image we are going to use for the John Kerry blogburst?

  4. Cao Says:

My son went to the Marine Military Academy in Texas for High School. He said they quit the crucible because of lawsuits and people complaining about hazing. The crucible is a longstanding tradition of the Marine Corps and these kids only had to stand 24 hours of it–a much watered down version. Real Marines have to go through 3 days of it. Honestly, we’re all going soft.

  5. Raven Says:

    Doug, you forgot this one:
“How dare you show kids real history books. They might actually appreciate America and, oh my gad, defend her someday!”

  6. Drew Says:

Raven: No, I haven’t recieved anything this weekend. Or, if I have it accidentally got deleted.

  7. Raven Says:

    I’ll email it to you…

  8. Raven Says:

Cao- we are going limpy like the far left wants us to go. Time for some action.

  9. Cao Says:

 Let me know what you have in mind. I have some time today,
