Abortion Must Hurt

Posted by Raven on April 27th, 2005

Last week I wrote several posts about abortion. I went with a friend when she had one performed and I considered it to be a life changing event for me. As I wrote about this issue, I came across many web sites with information, so much info that it is mind boggling. I decided more needs to be said.

Planned Parenthood has some info that is interesting as well. Since this group openly supports abortions, it’s no wonder we read this:

The chances are high that a woman will have more than one unplanned pregnancy in the course of her lifetime. Nearly half of all U.S. women will have an abortion by the time they are 45 years old.

More than six million women in the U.S. become pregnant every year. Half of those pregnancies are unintended. And 1.31 million end in abortion.

I would like to see where PP got these numbers. As I read the site I could not find any source.

The next section says this:

The most common reasons a woman chooses abortion are
She is not ready to become a parent.
She cannot afford a baby.
She doesn’t want to be a single parent.
She doesn’t want anyone to know she has had sex or is pregnant.
She is too young or too immature to have a child.
She has all the children she wants.
Her husband, partner, or parent wants her to have an abortion.
She or the fetus has a health problem.
She was a survivor of rape or incest.

These are all excuses as far as I am concerned. If women don’t want a baby, they need to use birth control, or maybe even a couple methods for birth control. In this day and age there is no excuse for unwanted pregnancies.
Condoms are much cheaper than an abortion, and they work pretty well when used with creams/lotions. The costs of these birth control methods, over a year, equals the costs of one abortion. So don’t tell me birth control is out of the reach for some, costs wise. These women sure manage to come up with the funds to pay for the abortion. (Many of these monies come from tax payers).

Further down I read this:

Can an embryo or fetus feel pain?

We know for sure that the embryo or fetus cannot perceive pain in the nearly 99 percent of all abortions that occur before the 20th week of pregnancy. It is even possible that a fetus is unable to perceive pain at any time during pregnancy. If, however, the ability to feel pain does develop before birth and consciousness, it is likely to happen only after the 28th week of pregnancy, when abortion is performed only for urgent medical reasons.

How do they know that “embryo’s under 20 weeks cannot feel pain? Have they done studies? Have they asked an aborted fetus what it felt like to be shredded and torn to pieces? Have they gone in with a peri videoscope and filmed what happens while this vacuum aspiration proecedure is performed? They don’t want anyone to see this.

More thought is given to the after feelings of a woman who is having an abortion, than to what it might be like for the victim-the unborn. How sad. How telling of a society that does not value life.

How will I feel after an abortion?

Most women feel relief. Some women feel anger, regret, guilt, or sadness for a little while. Sudden hormonal changes may intensify these feelings. Some people who oppose women’s right to make their own decisions claim that abortion often causes long-lasting emotional problems, or “post-abortion syndrome.” There is no scientific proof for these claims.

Emotional Problems After Abortion?
Serious, long-term emotional problems after abortion are extremely rare and less common than they are after childbirth. Such problems are more likely if
~the pregnancy was wanted but the health of the fetus or the woman was in danger
~having an abortion is related to serious problems in a relationship or other disturbing life events
~a woman is depressed or already has emotional problems

If you need to talk with someone after an abortion, abortion providers can offer follow-up counseling or refer you to a counselor.

Go see what these women had to say, after they had an abortion. Not all of them feel relief.

When we think about abortions, I remember hearing an argument that abortions would decrease violent crimes against children, poverty among children; that it would decrease the number of unwanted pregnancies, that it would save marriages and relationships…ect ect. If that is the case, then what can we say about this?

You make no mention of adoption. There are hundreds of thousands of couples (perhaps more) waiting and hoping to adopt a baby of their own. Check the classified pages of any newspaper: Couples are ADVERTISING themselves and their homes in hopes of inspiring someone who would let them adopt their baby.

That unborn babies must die daily while couples are in line practically begging to give them a home and a life is a tragedy beyond words.

Mark, I was going to write another day about the options women have over abortion. Of course adoption is right up there. I have a friend who cannot have kids, and for years she longed to adopt (she finally did) but I remember the pain she felt; knowing so many abortions were happening. How sad it is.
