Dad Gone Wild

Posted by Raven on May 21st, 2005

I was just there, at UNH and yes, the parties are fun and wild…and not a good place for YOUR daughters to be at. When it’s someone else’s daughter though, it’s ok. This Dad went a little too far, although I don’t blame him. He should have been more in charge of the girls, then maybe they would never have made it to UNH.

A Manchester man who went to retrieve his two daughters from a party at a University of New Hampshire fraternity was arrested early yesterday morning after he pulled a handgun and told revelers to “back off.”

John M. Lohnes, 47, of 79 Harrison St., was taken into custody shortly after midnight, Durham police said. He was alleged to have confronted and then threatened several people at a frat house on Garrison Avenue where he went in search of his twin 17-year-old daughters.

“I was outnumbered and I was surrounded by a bunch of college students,” Lohnes said last night. “I pulled a weapon and told them to back off.”

Lohnes said his family has gone through difficult times lately, after the death of a relative in a car accident. He said he was upset his daughters were attending a drinking party in Durham, where the UNH campus is situated.

“You can’t understand how my parents feel about this, hearing it on television,” Lohnes said.

His daughters had called him earlier Thursday night, saying they wanted to come home, Lohnes said. They had gotten a ride to a party, but had no ride back, he said.

Sounds as if he should have started shooting.

Yeah..my daughters are up there and they tell me this FRAT HOUSE is really bad….REALLY BAD…it’s not authorized and they drug up girls. So Dad should have started shootin Dethaniel. I want to know why this FRAT is still allowed to be on campus?? It has a history of serious problems.

Sounds like he reacted in self-defense. I hope he’s not charged with any crimes.

Well, I am older know, and a recent graduate of the University of New Hampshire. The fraternity where that man pulled the gun, is a good place with good people who do a lot for the community. The fact that underage girls were even allowed up to UNH, instead of being home in manchester is the real point. Who brings a gun to a college campus in NH anyway?

I know him, and you know it was totally taken out of context. He was surrounded, they threatened him, and his daughters WANTED to leave. All he did was defend himself, he didnt even take out the gun. The frat boys who LIED about the incident have a horrible history, but none can be brought up in a case about a man going to get his twins at a frat house, who were trashed upon his arrival. What about commending him for being a parent whose teenagers can call for a ride when they are too drunk to drive? Or, that the gun had a permit and it WAS 100% legal- nobody mentions the stuff that will prevent an innocent Dad from going to jail. He is a good father, who felt in danger, so he protected himself and his family- all he wanted was his daughters purse and to leave. that’s all. The frat needs to be shut down, and they all need a big dose of Karma- the frat boys know exactly what I am talking about- you liars.
