4 Bombs and The Patriot Act

It’s being reported that 4 bombers died in the London attack last week.
LEEDS, England (AP) – Police believe all four bombers who attacked trains and a bus in London died in the attacks, Sky News reported Tuesday, citing unidentified police sources.
Detectives believe that all four were British citizens, Sky News said.
The bomber responsible for the explosion on the double-decker bus was believed to be among the 13 people killed on board, and the identification of the attacker led to the raids in Leeds, Sky News and the British Broadcasting Corp. said. The death toll from all the attacks is currently at 52.
Meanwhile, across the pond here in the US, Congress is busy fighting about what parts of the Patriot Act need to stay or go. The wussy, wimpy, wishy-washy sleepy, sheepy pacifists are concerned about the Government invading the privacy of citizens.
The Patriot Act, the result of Congress’ swift response to the Sept. 11 attacks, allowed expanded surveillance of terror suspects, increased use of material witness warrants to hold suspects incommunicado and permitted secret proceedings in immigration cases.
It’s the “expanded surveillance” wording that has our ever reliable liberal reps all uptight. God forbid, the big bad Government try to keep an eye on activities that might harm Americans. It’s a crime to even consider watching young Muslim men-who might be plotting and planning attacks against us.
More than a dozen provisions are set to expire at the end of this year, some of which have aroused civil liberties concerns among liberals and conservatives.
Sensenbrenner plans to go along with Bush’s call on the House side, with his committee on Wednesday working on legislation that would strike all the “sunset” provisions – the predetermined dates when a law or provision expires – from the Patriot Act.
Specter, meanwhile, plans to keep several of the sunsets in the Senate bill when the law’s continuation is debated in the Senate Judiciary Committee, setting up a conflict between the two versions that would have to reconciled before the provision’s expiration on Dec. 31 if they are unchanged in the House and Senate.
Sensenbrenner and Specter both plan to call for additional reporting requirements and modifications for the Patriot Act in their reauthorization bills, especially on the so-called “library provision.”
That provision, by far the most controversial in the Patriot Act, permits secret warrants for “books, records, papers, documents and other items” from businesses, hospitals and other organizations.
While it does not specifically mention bookstores or libraries, critics say the government could use it to subpoena library and bookstore records and snoop into the reading habits of innocent Americans.
Why does anyone care what the government keeps track of? The reading habits of innocent Americans are not going to be of concern to Big Brother; NO, they are more interested in what the young Muslims are up too. If I were in charge, I would kick out ALL the young Muslim pukes. Round them up, like cattle, and ship them off on a ferry boat back to Arabia. Or Iran. Or wherever they’re from. No more games. No more pussy footin around. It’s time to get tough and start looking out for Americans. (Or, any free nation).

Ya know, you’re right Raven. But(monkey), while I am all for the Patriot Act, it isn’t only libs who are against it. Some conservatives and I guess all libertarians revile the notion of expanding Big Brother.
I’m rather much of the notion that, hey, I don’t have anything to hide, so go ahead and watch me. And if they did it RIGHT, then they’d be PROFILING. But the privacy issues are difficult ones to tackle.

Privacy issues my ass. It’s about saving your life, the life of your kids and grandkids. Do you really care who is watching what you read? I don’t…and I read lots of stuff that would be considered…off color. LOL

LOL.
Raven, your comment somehow reminds me of a 1960s Bob Dylan line from “It’s Alright Ma(I’m Only Bleeding):
…”And if my thought dreams could be seen, they’d probably put my head in a guillotine…”
