Racism, American Style

Posted by Raven on October 13th, 2005

Kender brought to attention some debate about racism in America.

I hate the fact that there is a Miss Black America out there.
Nope, I am talking about the pageant, and not Miss Black America herself.
So, to all of you out there that aren’t black, and aren’t saying a damned word about Miss Black America, (which should politically correctly be called “Miss African American America”, but that doesn’t have a good ring now does it?), all of you whiny ass bitches out there on the left with your fucking PCitis and your overly sensitive wailing hearts and lack of common fucking sense should take a good hard look at yourself in the mirror and realize that what happened over a hundred years ago is in the past, and the best way to make up for it has already been done. There are no special laws for black vs. white. It is all equal.
There are no special laws for black vs. white. It is all equal.

I have my own pretty strong opinions about this issue as well…

I hold the opinion that today, in this day, racism and discrimination are used as an excuse by many people – for their failures in life. I truly believe that the leaders of the various ethnic groups pimp the people and stir the pot.
Modern media is always on the look out for discrimination/racist stories to print. If the world is ever to become truly color blind, then people of all colors MUST all be willing to stop flaunting their color upon me, upon my kids, upon my friends and neighbors…upon all people.

I’m concerned that so many people of color STILL try to make me feel guilty for things I had nothing to do with…Slavery and civil rights issues from decades and centuries ago. I believe we are all human beings, created equal. I also believe that here in America, everyone–no matter what color their skin is, has oppurtunities to better themselves. Through hard work and effort everyone can reach their dreams. Where there is will, there is a way. The color of flesh means nothing to a strong determinded mind. If I can bring myself up out of where I once was…ANYONE can, no matter what color they are.

I have many friends and neighbors and co-workers who are black, hispanic, Muslim…For the most part they are all decent hard working Americans. I can say the same about my white friends, neighbors and co workers. I grew up around people of various ethnic backgrounds as well, and through many experiences I have had the pleasure of being color blind for the most part. I’m not guilty of being racist, but people do TRY to make me think that I am.

I get double whammied because I am a white female with conservative political leanings to boot! Being republican can really make one a target of those who feel sorry for themselves, or for those looking to place blame on anyone/thing for their failures in life…It’s not fair and it really keeps this race game alive and well. Just because I happen to think that hard work will lead to a better life…that nothing should come to me, free, on a silver platter…that special affirmative action laws are NOT needed…makes me racist.

I’m not the only one. Many people of color attempt to bring their race into the equation by asking white people…HAVE YOU BEEN THROUGH WHAT I HAVE BEEN THROUGH?? or- HAVE YOU GROWN UP AROUND PEOPLE LIKE ME??

Michael had a post up about this and has some interesting insights:

I expected some arguments on this topic but instead of this had a very insightful question that might lead us all to a better understanding of each other. I think that hearing different view points will allow us to become a better people.

He doesn’t get as wound up about this as Kender and I do…

Race is an still an issue that brings strong feelings to the surface in both blacks and whites. We all need to admit to the fact that we treat people different based on their skin color. It is a fact I am not a racist but I see myself looking differently, changing my expectations of people and reacting differently based on race. I now have a group of friends that are black and I see them treat each other differently based on who is around. And they are very different when they are not around any each other.

It is going to take all of us to get over this. Racism is learned trait that starts very young and we need to make strides in stopping it before it rips America apart.

Michael is right. It’s going to take effort on everyone’s part..including those who insist upon using the race card as their excuse. If all else has failed them, every path and every turn on that rocky road towards their dreams is met with a dead end…then MAYBE race can be used as a excuse.

We have to stop allowing the leaders of these ethnic groups to run wild with lies and half truths about discrimination. We have to re-learn that a BIG part of the American experiment includes it’s citizens hard work to reach their dreams. We need to stop expecting the government to hand over to us everything we need to survive.

The ball is in the court of those who claim they are being discriminated against as far as I am concerned. Show me that you have done everything possible. Show me your road blocks to your dreams. Prove to me that you’ve been discriminated against…I know in some cases it is real and it’s blatant. But for most it’s just an excuse.

Don’t ever forget — this is NOT about race, it’s about MONEY. The black hucksters NEED cash. They have no jobs. All their money comes from donations from people who are either benefitting from their extortion schemes or are terrified of becoming slaves again.

    It’s ALL about the cash.

Racebaiting bastards such as Jackson and Farrakhan, especially Farrakhan, should be tossed in jail as they shysters they are.

Raceism is alive and well in America, only this time it isn’t a move to stay in power. As Ogre said, it is a move to get money.

“Poor black me” “poor hispanic me” “Poor (fill in any race but white, nobody loves me everybody hates me guess I’ll go eat some worms unless you give me money then I can vote for you) me”.

I am so sick of this shit.
