Sleekly groomed diplomats?
Posted by Raven on December 28th, 2005
So how are things going for John Bolton?? And the UN?? Just read this and laugh.
U.S. Ambassador John Bolton’s mission to reform the UN is a lot like Hercules’ mythical labor to clean a mountain of manure from the Augean Stables, joked a friend while introducing him before a recent speech. The difference for Bolton, she said, is that the animals making the mess are still there.
Recounting the story, Bolton leans his head back and laughs. “She said it,” he said. “I didn’t.”
After four months as ambassador, Bolton is still shoveling hard. Most of his fellow diplomats agree that the blunt envoy is unconventional. Some call him “a bully,” and others say he is “brilliant.” But opinion is divided about whether he is cleaning up the mess or adding to it.
“He is having a definite impact,” said Ambassador Mihnea Motoc of Romania, a temporary member of the Security Council. “Others wish they could do things the same way.”
The UN needs a bully. A brilliant one at that.
But Bolton’s methods have often put him at odds with traditional U.S. allies here, particularly Britain, which has worked to broker face-saving compromises. “Strategically, there isn’t that much of a difference between the U.S. and the U.K.,” British Ambassador Emyr Jones Parry said. “The question is one of tactics.”
Tactics? I suppose. The Brits are far more elegant and kiss classy, who beat around the bush a lot. Bolton is a straight shooter who speaks the truth, with a bluntness the UN has never seen before.
Just as member states were brushing themselves off from the last collision Bolton precipitated – over an agreement on how to reform the UN before the World Summit in September – the U.S. ambassador is setting up a new showdown.
He has threatened to block the world body’s budget for 2006-07 unless diplomats commit to “real reform” by the end of 2005, a year that has seen the organization severely damaged by revelations of corruption and mismanagement in the Iraq oil-for-food program, the disclosure of sexual exploitation by peacekeepers and the UN’s inability to change itself.
It hasn’t happened-this reform. Kofi Annan (cough, choke, spit) is still around and therefore so is all the corruption and lies. I say, BLOCK the damn budget. Don’t give them a red penny until real change happens.
The budget battle prompted Secretary-General Kofi Annan to cancel a trip this month to Asia, and warn that Bolton’s gambit could exacerbate the problems it is meant to solve.
“He has an agenda, and he’s pursuing it with a conviction that is uncommon here,” said Algerian Ambassador Abdallah Baali, who sometimes clashes with Bolton in the Security Council but considers him a friend. “He’s doing it his way, which is not the way we do it at the UN. We are used to a little more compromise.”
It’s about time someone “exacerbrated” the problems at the UN. These issues need to be exposed and fixed. Not just whispered about and swept under the marble flooring of Turtle Bay.
Bolton stands out among sleekly groomed diplomats, with his trademark walrus mustache and mop of gray hair.
Heh, he’s not interested in appearances so much as he is with action. I like that. Anyone who can put aside petty concerns about how they look, and get down to the more important things in life, is worthy of my respect.

Which is why the libs fought tooth & nail(in vain thanks to his recess appointment, LOL) to block his confirmation.
They want us to kiss the UN’s ass, and an ambassador who’ll keep his mouth shut while all the weaselizing and corruption go on around him — corruption and liberals go hand-in-hand — and in Bolton we’ve got a wide awake, bottom line, no BS, undiplomatic diplomat who represents American interests first.
The left doesn’t represent America’s interests at all.

corruption and liberals go hand-in-hand
Correction; corruption and politicians, in general, go hand-in-hand.

Linking Some Good Reading
Raven has the latest scoop on U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton. Michael Yon’s latest post is a short piece that links to a CNN report which actually talks about one of the many positives by our troops in…

“Anyone who can put aside petty concerns about how they look, and get down to the more important things in life, is worthy of my respect.”
And Raven turned her purses upside down, all her makeup tumbling into a great heap. And all the Rightly So women joined in adding to the pile until it was lit, and soon a bonfire of the vanities raged and kept their spirits higher than a 40% approval rating.
And now you see them coming and going to their keyboards, dressed in the plainest Amish clothing, faces unadorned, and bonnets atop their Christian heads.
And they are worthy of our respect.
Amen.

Actually Holy Bytch, I don’t wear makeup and don’t carry a purse- never have and never will. Unlike you I imagine.
December 29th, 2005 at 5:07 pm
Yeah, real men don’t have purses. At least not where I’m from. Even a stupid liberal like you Holy Roller should know that.

“…After four months as ambassador, Bolton is still shoveling hard”
Couldn’t say it any better..

John Bolton for president:!::!::!::!:
December 30th, 2005 at 2:24 am
But…but Shingles…
If you look at the record pols have for getting busted, the Republicans are always nailed for shenannigans related to protecting or otherwise advancing the party or the country, whereas Dems who get caught are always caught in the act of enriching their own personal fortunes.
December 30th, 2005 at 1:48 pm
Seth- Yeah just like Tom Delay huh?
Or Abramoff? And everyone associated with him. Haha Please.
Bolton is a straight up asshole. What would you call a guy that throws shit around the office and makes an intern cry. We Had a guy like that once, Asshole was the first name, unemployed was the second.
That’s fine though, it’s funny as hell to see you guys applauding alienation from close allies and “Undiplomatic diplomacy”. (Doublethink? Us?)
I suppose when the wheels start really falling off you’ll be clapping even louder.
December 30th, 2005 at 3:52 pm
Seth, that’s true.
Randy “Duke” Cunningham HAD to take $2.4 million in bribes because otherwise THE TERRORISTS WOULD HAVE WON!
December 30th, 2005 at 7:37 pm
DeLay has been proven guilty of nothing, that’s a case of a prosecutor with a political axe to grind who keeps losing in one court after another.
There’s a case pending now re a Hillary Clinton campaign contribution issue, BTW, and the complainant just happens to be a contrubutor who Hillary made an unwitting accomplice to a major felony. And this guy’s a liberal. Hee hee!
There are also a lot more charges filed against Republicans than there are convictions — rabid liberals who, unable to win votes because both their lack of direction and their unpopular(except among the liberal minority) agendas don’t make it with most Americans, try to get at Republicans via the courts. Shameful, in the very least, but there it is.
December 30th, 2005 at 7:39 pm
That’s Randy “Top Gun” Cunningham to you traitor!
Besides if we stop the arms makers from bribing their way into overpriced contracts, America will really have lost her way.
I can’t wait for those new “Death trap” Model Ospreys, only about 40 mill each!
December 30th, 2005 at 7:47 pm
Oh and Seth, I’d hardly describe a veteran prosecutor with more Democrats than republicans on his hit list, as a “political axe grinder”, that is unless of course you get all your news from the GOP talking points… Which it seems you do…
I notice you didn’t address the Abramoff issue, as he’s been tied to Delay too lately. Things are really starting to fall apart for the old GOP “Hammer”.
Much like the other hammer that burned too bright too quickly, and ended up in the poor house. I mean of course MC.
All kidding aside, it couldn’t have happened to someone more deserving. He might want to invest on some soap on a rope.
December 30th, 2005 at 8:41 pm
He might want to invest on some soap on a rope.
LOL!!!!
Personally, I’d watch and see how it turns out.
December 30th, 2005 at 8:43 pm
No makeup, no purse, pants all the time, short hair, comfortable shoes, a truck, pro golf.
But with a mouth like that and skin so thin, she’s all woman.
December 30th, 2005 at 9:27 pm
Poor Super Patriot. No coin purse, no family jewels.
December 30th, 2005 at 9:35 pm
Oh, and Timmah –
Even though the prosecutor is a political hack, he still has to do his job, which is convicting criminals, so naturally he prosecutes more Democrats.
Why do you suppose liberals want convicts to be allowed to vote? It would give a large boost to Democrats, since they’d get the felons’ votes, hands down.
Doesn’t say much for the left, does it?
December 30th, 2005 at 10:19 pm
Another thing, since the topic of this thread is Bolton –
You liberals are so anti-America and so worshipful of the anti-America U.N. that it really kills you that he’s putting America’s interests first, as any U.S. Ambassador should do, at the U.N.
He’s also blasting the corruption at Turtle Bay that you leftists defend unto death.
So, yeah, it’s a good thing that we have an administration staffed with honest patriots who have cojones rather than limp-Richarded, pencil necked, cowardly Clintonite socialists who’d allow the anti-American anal cavities at the U.N. to dictate policy to us.
You leftists are, collectively, a real piece of work.
December 31st, 2005 at 1:31 am
Is “sleekly groomed” a play on John “free mustache ride” Bolton’s chic look?
He’s not related to Michael, is he?
December 31st, 2005 at 3:35 am
Seth – If only you knew the damage the last six years has done to the country. It will play out soon, it gets worse, it always does.
I see the big picture here. Ronnie Earle likely has more democrats then republicans on his list because the democrats were the old corruption and he’s an old prosecutor. They have since been replaced by a new and much more effective and organized corruption. There’s nothing new here except the magnitude, and possibly the willingness to kill for the fraud.
Also, your flip flop (ouch Kerry reference) between “Earle is a runaway junkyard dog prosecutor with an axe to grind” and “Haha Earle was just doing his job, and democrats are criminals!” BS just shows how disingenuous you are.
December 31st, 2005 at 6:18 am
…just shows how disingenuous you are.
By that, you mean that a guy can’t both do his job and also “grind his political axes”? My observation is logical enough, you only take umbrage with it because your fellow leftists apparently broke the law more often than my fellow right thinkers.
So, in true liberal fashion, your response is to attack me, or in this case, the sincerity of my statements.
You really ought to try to distance yourself from your political beliefs for an hour or so and read all the quotes you can find by liberal politicians from speeches, talk shows and press conferences over the last 6 years, since W beat Gore and your party lost its mind. If you could do this and not see how far out in left field your political leadership and, therefore, its supporters have gone, you might qualify for a monthly check.
December 31st, 2005 at 11:51 am
…That might be because your statements are insincere. You’ll just use whatever arbitary talking point you have on hand regardless of any arguments you previously set forth. It’s actually kind of pathetic.
December 31st, 2005 at 5:03 pm
One small note about the actual story, either Bolton or his assistant know little to nothing about the mythology there, as the whole reason it was such a herculean task was because he had to do it in one day (something Bolton has obviously not accomplished) and also because the animals still WERE there making the mess.
January 1st, 2006 at 7:48 am
“By that, you mean that a guy can’t both do his job and also “grind his political axes”? My observation is logical enough”
Yeah, in the sense that “unfalsifiable” is logical. Republican? Grinding an axe. Democrat? Just doing his job. Intellectual integrity? Not an attribute of Seth or any other wingnut.
January 1st, 2006 at 8:26 pm
The law of averages, “truth” machine.
It’s profoundly ludicrous that a liberal would have the moxi to use the word “truth” in his screen name.
January 3rd, 2006 at 8:43 pm
Timmah –
What do you make of this?

January 3rd, 2006 at 11:41 pm
What do you make of this?
You can usually tell what a web site thinks about it’s readers by looking at the advertisements that it carries. Newsmax.com has the following ads:
“throw pens, pencils even paperclips – learn the unbeatable defense of quick impaling techniques”
“men, do you hate rejection by women? discover the forbidden attraction secrets the liberal media doesn’t want you to know”
“imagine making $10,000 per month on the internet”
Seems to me like newsmax.com thinks its readers are idiots.
The article is obviously crap and if you need someone to point out to you why then you are dumber than newsmax thinks you are.
January 4th, 2006 at 11:45 am
I think evenflow pretty much hits the nail on the head there.
January 4th, 2006 at 1:26 pm
Abstinence is easier said than done, isn’t it Timmah420?
January 4th, 2006 at 1:34 pm
I don’t even find it easy to say…
Oh hey seth, Thought i’d toss you a list of the people and organizations that were given money by Abramoff, see if you can find one democrat in there.
Because, as we all know, you can Jack Abramoff, but you might not enjoy it.

Here’s The bloody link for real!
January 4th, 2006 at 3:27 pm
Heh considering NewsMax gets most of it’s reports from sources such as the AP, RTrs,
ect– even the old gray lady…you all say alot.
January 4th, 2006 at 4:18 pm
Raven, considering the fact that you think a 360 degree turn points you in a different direction, and as a conservative, you should know to keep your mouth shut while the men are speaking.
January 4th, 2006 at 4:23 pm
ooops, I forgot the smiley face. That was meant to be a joke.
January 4th, 2006 at 4:24 pm
But seriously Raven, you’re not too bright.
January 4th, 2006 at 8:48 pm
Raven – Most news sources do pull most of their headlines from AP and the like, it’s the other stories that get run that attact certain readers.
Advertising says alot about a readership, I don’t remember seeing mainy Colt .45 ads in vanity fair. The ads on newsmax are hilarious comic book style rip offs. And the readers obviously fall for them. Sad really.
