Playing the Race Card
Posted by Raven on January 17th, 2006
I’ve read a couple of my favorite blogs today and have a need to vent. This is about racism in this country. It’s getting old. I’m sick and tired of hearing, from so called leaders, how a certain people’s race has caused them to be poor or to be disadvantaged, or worse, to be punished just because of their race.
We have enough racism in this country…the leaders chose to continue to make it an issue because it gets them votes.
The government pansy asses continue to fund programs that enable the poor to stay that way- to stay dependent upon the government. It’s a vicious cycle that no one wants to break apart. Then we have idiOts who make statements like this:
“Surely God is mad at America. He sent us hurricane after hurricane after hurricane, and it’s destroyed and put stress on this country,” Nagin, who is black, said as he and other city leaders marked Martin Luther King Day.
“Surely he doesn’t approve of us being in Iraq under false pretenses. But surely he is upset at black America also. We’re not taking care of ourselves.”
Mayor Nagin is playing the race card here BIG TIME. It’s getting old. It’s getting abused at this point. He should be a leader, not an instigator for trouble. He knows better.
Michael puts it best:
Most politicians are stupid but articulate, Mayor Nagin Falls far short in everything but being black. Hay Mayor, how about being American first? Stop being the racist!
The words of people like Mayor Nagin cause some of us to become defensive and rightfully so. Kender has reacted in a manner similar to how I feel:
I am NOT a racist, but I am an American Patriot, and the time is quickly approaching where the people will have to decide “whither goest the land”, and when that time comes, those people of conviction that believe in hard work, self-reliance and Freedom, and understand the meaning of Sacrifice, Duty and Honor will have to stand up and defend our land from the enemies both without, and from within.
Damn straight. I’m an American first…my color and everything else comes second.
I come from a pretty rough background and had to pull, dig, claw and climb my way out of those pits. I worked hard, sacrificed a lot and lived a pretty damn hard life for many years. To get where I am now, I had to have determination, a positive attitude, strength and a desire to overcome SO many obstacles. If I can better myself, ANYONE can. I don’t give a rats ass what color someone is. I don’t care how poor someone is. It’s up to individual people to do this for themselves. One cannot count on the government and the so called leaders to help out- Mayor Nagin shows us just how this all works. It’s better to be a victim than a success. Bullshit. Stop using race as an excuse.
