Some New England area headlines:
MEREDITH, N.H. – A weekend trip to Lake Winnipesaukee turned tragic for a group of college students, WMUR reported.
According to investigators, Norman Mabie, 19, of Manchester, took a snowmobile out for a spin around midnight on Friday. Another student accompanied Mabie, authorities said.
A short time later, the snowmobiles fell through some ice off Meredith Neck Road in Meredith, N.H.
Investigators said the other student was able to get out of the lake and is OK.
After searching for hours, divers found Mabie’s body at the bottom of the lake, about 30 feet below the surface of the patchy ice.
Mabie, a student at Daniel Webster College, was at the lake for a weekend away with some college friends.
