I’m getting a little depressed over the lack of a decent electable GOP candidate for President 2008. So far there is NO ONE who attracts my eye. No one who speaks up against the things important to me. No platform that I can relate to.
With home-field advantage, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist placed first in an informal poll of 2008 presidential hopefuls at a Republican conference held Saturday night in Memphis, Tenn.
The two-term Tennessee senator received 526 first-place votes, or 36.9 percent, at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference’s “straw poll” sponsored by Hotline, a political digest.
But who came in after Frist may be crucial in deciphering the grassroots support for other potential nominees.
Surprisingly, Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney finished second with 14.4 percent.
Emerging as a serious contended was Sen. George Allen of Virginia who finished third, tied with President Bush who cannot seek a third term.
The results were not a surprise and were unlikely to impact the still-evolving 2008 presidential field. Frist was the only potential candidate who aggressively recruited delegates.
Sen. John McCain of Arizona, among the most popular Republicans in national surveys, threw a wrench in the polling Friday night by asking delegates to vote for Bush as a show of support. It was a clever move to dilute support for other candidates. McCain finished a distance fifth.
Frist, McCain, Allen, Romney- I like them all BUT they are RINOS. Not a one of them has a platform that I can relate too. Each of them comes off as wishy washy to me. And each of them plays by the party rules which, right now, do not match the mood of the average people who belong to the party.
The one person who I would like to see run for President hasn’t offically said he is doing so. Tom Tancredo. This man is able to speak up about issues important to me; he has the balls to take a stand against the typical tidal wave of the GOP right now…and he isn’t afraid to rock the boat when it’s needed. Lately that boat has been sinking. We need someone who can plug the holes and keep this country safe.

I’ve created a Tom Tancredo For President Blog Roll. If anyone is interested in joining let me know. I’ve emailed the man himself to let him know I support him 100% and would assist in any way I can, to get him elected to office.

I’m telling you — that criminal alien platform will be HUGE in 2008 if someone will actually run on it. None of the other candidates you listed, nor any Democrats, have suggested they will do anything at all on that issue.
Way too early to worry about this. The Democrats were attacking President Bush even before he was inaugurated for this second term as being a “lame-duck” !!
George Allen’s not a RINO, you’ll see! (Frist, McCain, and Romney though…no thanks.)
I would like to recommend a candidate that is tremendously attractive. She is photogenic and performs well in all focus groups. She is firm on defense and will not hesitate to attack those who threaten us. On domestic issues, she is not one to allow her fellow citizens to lay about in idleness. Of course, I’m speaking of that furry, ankle-biting, tuna-demanding Maximum Leader, K T Cat!

Ha ha, you guys think that Tom Tancredo will get any financial support from the GOP money-men? Give me a break, no one will touch this issue as long as the corporations that benefit from illegal immigrant labor hold the purse-strings to the party.
I’m not sure why you think folks like McCain and Frist are “RINOs”, since McCain is the third most conservative member of the senate, and Frist is the 16th.
You better start some bake sales, raising 10 million bucks will take a looong time to raise.

Anyone who thinks McCain is a viable Republican presidential candidate or a true conservative needs to brush up a bit. If he’s anything, he’s a fence sitter who comes down on whatever side of an issue he thinks will bolster his chances of getting to the White House.
The majority of American voters are concerned about the criminal alien issue, it actually has a strong negative impact on the U.S. economy and on vital services like hospital care, and the illegal border crossings involved in getting most of them here are a homeland security issue. It is quite possible that Tancredo could end up with more sponsorship than you think.
It’s good to see that someone on the Hill is willing to take a stand on an important issue without waffling in the face of his opposition. All too many congressional spines have become somewhat rubberized of late, but Tom Tancredo’s isn’t one of them.
McCain sucks. WHile I respect that he was a POW and all that, I do not believe he has America’s best interest at heart anymore and, he speaks more and more liberal everyday.
Grassroots effort may help Tancredo. It’s what we should be doing- helping people get elected who deserve it.
Oh, I never claimed him to be a viable Republican candidate, just that he was more conservative then folks around here claim him to be. When it counts, he votes conservative, as the link I provided proves. Both Seth and Raven claim he “talks liberal”, but we all know the proof is in the pudding. Or voting. Example: President Bush claims to be a conservative while spending more borrowed tax dollars than any other president in modern memory.
As far as grassroots support, you’re probably right about Tancredo. Unfortunately, the money ain’t there. The GOP relies on the rich elite to finance their elections, and the masses to do the voting. It hasn’t worked the other way around, historically.

He is picking up steam and I think he has a great shot at the White House in 2008.
American are fed up with illegal immigration and we want an honest politican who is going to tackle the problem.

I like to think I’m open-minded & treat others with respect. However, the immigration issue is important. I live in Northern Virginia where the Hispanic population is exploding. Yes, I can understand why they’re here. However, some of the immigration rhetoric is absurd. For example: They’ll take jobs that Americans don’t want. My question is, who did the work before the Hispanics were here? I’m now a white collar professional but in my late teens and throughout my 20’s I was a both an unskilled laborer and a skilled craftsman (that was in Virginia during the 70’s and 80’s). The workforce was 99% black & white. It certanly isn’t now. This is my point: The Hispanics are displacing the American workers. Over time, it has become unimaginable for young Americans to work with a major social group that is not from this country, doesn’t speak the language, and are culturally different. I’m all for sharing if there’s enough to share but the strain being placed on our social, health, and educational services is a crime. I know the Hispanics aren’t terrorists, but the illegals are certainly burglars. Why doesn’t some brave politician begin to compare our country to a private home. Would you throw open the doors of your domilcile to anyone? Of course not. Northern Virginia is a very congested area. We are in direct competition for housing with a great number of non-citizens. When will someone stand-up for the legal Americans?

Suricou raven? Dear? Did you forget your meds? The democrats do not get a “turn”, dollface, they must earn it, and if they were smart, they would jump on teh secure the border bandwagon…..the party that does that will win the next election.
Democracy doesn’t work well when the parties dont balance. Whichever one is strongest just consolidates its power - appointing its own officials to key positions, stalling anything attempted by another party. Generially, making the other parties completly ineffective. That makes votes pointless - do you vote for “The Ruling Party” or “The Little Ones Who Cant Do Anything.”
The whole american political system is just screwed up completly as long as there are only two parties with any level of influence. It just tends towards polarisation and us vs them - thats why you have liberals and conservatives.
Actually S.Raven, we have more than two parties in the U.S.
The reason we have liberals and conservatives is because that is the two sides that have polarized the country, unlike other countries that have such a diversity of opinions that quite a few parties have some little power and nothing really gets done….
why am I trying to explain our system to you? You don’t appear to be able to understand it anyway.
I did mention two parties with any level of influence. I know there are others, but they barely count. Between them they come up to the ‘other’ on the post-election pie chart. Occasionally they get someone apointed at the state level, but are never a significent factor in the federal government.
In the UK, we at least have three parties large enough to get a place on the pie-chart. And our government works, for the most part, very well. While that in the US is characterised by insults, games and loyalty to a party above all other considerations.

Tom Tancredo was warning Congress about immigration many years ago and was a political outcast with very little media exposure. Today he is seen on several news shows and other Congressmen actually say hi to him. THe good news is that they cam to his point of view rather than him becoming one of them.

The Honorable Congressman Tancredo is the best hope for America to save our soveriegn nation from the illegal immigration invasion!! Politicians now in office, and I make no distinction between the parties, are interested in the ecomonmic/political and personal interests.

Rep. Tom Tancredo might be short but he carries a big club. He is the only candidate running that will take care of the illegal alien problem.
President Bush has had almost 8 years to do something about the border. I believe he cares more for the illegal Mexicans than than he does for the Citizens of this country. He does not care that an illegal Mexican murdered a police officer in Colorado who left a wife and 2 litle children who will grow up without their father. A marine after surviving in Iraq, was shot and killed by an illegal Mexican.
There was a woman in the midwest who hired a Mexican to build a deck for her.. After he finished the deck, he raped her. Bush does not care about the legal citizens of this country—-all he cares about are the illegal Mexicans.
The #1 issue to me in the next election is illegal immigration. Based on this issue, Tom Tancredo is the only candidate that would vote for at this point. From what I have read, he is not afraid to be politically incorrect in order to do what is best for our country. We need more politicians to step up this way.
Tom Tancredo is the only candidate that lets face it that has the balls to call it like it is. He is the new Pat Buchanan of today. One that will stand for the America we have not seen in along time, one that stands on the Constitution and Bill of Rights. One that will not be push around by the press and the leftist Democrats that have plagued this country with their self serving socialistic views. But will the Gop that seems to be run by the money controllers back him, that is the question. They would rather loose an election because of the principles that don’t serve them, then back a candidate that stands for the principles that this country was founded on. The Kenndey-Clinton candidates and office holders don’t give care for America, only their leftist idealistic laws that keep them in power, not to serve anyone, but just to keep them in power, they love power for the sake of power, its as simple as that. They have never had a message and never will, because it takes a stand and they will be caught doing that. Tom Tancredo does and has taken a stand and if it cost him his office, then so be it. He is a man of principle at all cost. That is what founded America and that is what it will take to take America back to greatness

Let’s run some numbers for an example. The population in the U.S. is 300M minus 50 million illegal aliens - minus another 50M illegal alien American supporters = 200 Million patriotic Americans - More than enough to get Congressman Tancredo elected as President. Nebraskans are volunteering, getting Tancredo signs up all over our cities, donating, educating others on illegal alien issues and getting their commitment to vote TANCREDO in 2008. If Tancredo is NOT elected, it’s game over.
I am supporting Ron Paul for president. Dont know much about Tancredo, but im willing to consider anyone who is not a rich greedy corporate traitor such as rudy or hillary! If Guillani or Clinton get elected this country is in deep trouble! That is IF we still have a country called the united states; or will we be the new north american union????
