Cambridge MA: Illegals Welcome
Posted by Raven on May 8th, 2006
Another Only In MA (TM) tale-
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — This famously liberal city is serving notice that illegal immigrants are welcome, even while Congress is considering tough new penalties. Police won’t harass you. Education and health care are available.
Here’s the hitch: You probably can’t afford to live here.
Back in 1985, when Cambridge first declared itself a “sanctuary city,” rent control kept apartments affordable.
Today, however, Cambridge no longer has rent control; cheap apartments were turned into luxury condominiums and the city _ home of Harvard and MIT _ is among the most expensive places to live in the United States. The average rent for a one-bedroom apartment is around $1,400 a month.
So, while the city renews its open-arms declaration _ as other U.S. cities also are doing _ it’s not exactly a magnet for new immigrants, particularly illegal ones.
It is outragiously expensive down there…I guess Illegals could afford to live on the streets. Or they could become paid slave labor to the rich and unfamous of the area.

Rent is expensive on the northern California coast too, but that doesn’t deter illegal immigrants. A one-bedroom house for $1,500 a month houses three illegal families, so the cost per family is only $500 a month. However, our high rents do keep US citizens away, leaving the illegals with little competition for construction work.
Since the indigenous peoples of Mexico and Central America consider themselves the rightful owners of North America, it will only be a matter of time before Massachusetts is added to the Reconquista, the reconquering of lands taken from their native populations by European immigrants. Each night as we sleep, an ever-increasing Army of Reconquistadores is being created. To find out what is being done under covers in the night, please go to Strong As An Ox And Nearly As Smart and scroll down to “Making the Army of Reconquista.”

Even when they HAD rent control, many of the controlled units didn’t go to those who need them. Infamously, it was once reported that Ruth Abrams notoriously liberal Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court, inhabited a rent-controlled three bedroom apartment across from Harvard — thereby depriving a needy family of affordable housing.
As is usual with an entrenched liberal political machine, there was “a list” of candidates for rent controlled apartments, and then there was “THE list.” One guess which list was used more often.

Major Mike- this is a problem too…having too many people living in these apartments is a health concern. They live like pigs and it becomes OUR problem. We’re the ones who pay to clean up the messes in many ways.

Raven, How dare you compare illegal aliens to pigs.
I believe you owe them an appology.
