The Eagle Has Arrived

Isn’t she beautiful?

PORTSMOUTH — The U.S. Coast Guard Eagle, a three-masted sailing barque, made its triumphant return to the Port City on Friday after an absence of about 20 years.
The 300-foot-long tall ship, which is used as a training vessel for Coast Guard cadets, arrived at the Port of New Hampshire at about 9:15 a.m. for a three-day stay.
A parade some 40-boats strong accompanied the vessel up the harbor as people watched from the shore. The Eagle fired off a few shots in response to some mock cannon fire. Because of the currents and slightly rainy weather, the vessel was not able to unfurl its sails, so it looked somewhat naked as it came up the river.
The ship will be open for public tours today and Sunday from 1 to 8 p.m. Admission is free.
Darn. Wish I wasn’t working cause I would go see her.

One would think the Coast Guard would be a bit prouder
if the Eagle was shown with its full compliment
of laundry hanging out to catch the morning breeze

Yeah- but they only keep the sails up with certain weather conditions and for speed. Coming into the harbor is not a time for speed- LOL– the ship would crash.

She’s a very pretty boat. Ship. (been watching Pirate’s of the Caribbean again)
I love those old ships. Such power and majesty.
