In with the New. Out with the Old.

Posted by Raven on January 2nd, 2007

Seems a lot of people have written about their New Years resolutions.

I have a few. Many of these things were supposed to get done last year. But a lot of personal family issues came to be and I had to keep my priorities where they belonged. I was also in the process of a divorce, which resolved last summer. The family things also ended on a good note and now…there is nothing to stop me from going for the things I have dreamed about a good portion of my life.

Besides my usual pledges-
-I will swear more
-I will drink more
-I will work harder
-I will play harder
-I will go to many more concerts
-I will travel to Bar Harbor at least once a month
-I will hike the Presidential Traverse again this year
-I will continue to work out every day (except the weekends when I’m working)
-I will do a marathon this year (this is new)

Personal resolutions:
I will get these things accomplished this year:

-I will stay very involved with my family. My daughters still need their Mom and I will be here or there or wherever for them. They always have and will always come FIRST to me.

-I will continue to be the friend I have always been to those in my little world who call me their friend. Loyalty, trust, good times and bad all make us the tight knit group we are. Nothing will change this. Fights and disagreements will happen; making up will happen…and lots of laughing, goofing off, partying, just hanging out together will continue.

-I will get my bachelor of science degree. I start classes in a week. I’m 32 credits short of this degree. By June I will have this.
In September I start the matriculated Physical Therapist program and that requires a commitment of at least three years to obtain the Masters degree needed for practice.

-At work I will continue to advocate for my patients at every level. I will not allow others to provide sub standard care; I will not allow others to take advantage of the dire situations we so often find ourselves in during emergencies. I will value the life of every patient, irregardless of their prognosis. I will work my ass off, without complaint.

What I won’t do this year:

-Allow others to take advantage of me. I have learned to say NO.

-I won’t be looking for my special guy anymore. (WHAT???) (NO WAY!!) Yes way. I have discovered that I like being my own person; I like being single and unattached. I don’t like being lonely, BUT I like being alone now. (Like that makes sense). And I figured out that when you look too hard for that special person, you limit yourself too much. When the right guy comes along, I will KNOW IT.

-I will not change the person I am, deep down. No college degree will ever cause me to think I am better than others. I will always be ME, the swearing, cussing, forever rolling-her-eyes, impatient little brat I have always been…just better and more refined at it.

-I will not change my core beliefs in politics and world affairs and all that. I will continue to think critically of liberals and Lemoncrats (TM); I will continue to not trust Muslimes and Islam; I will always hold America as the higher moral authority in this world of ours- compared to every other nation. I will continue to stand up to the bulloney liberals and others throw at me and my friends and fellow bloggers of my side of the political spectrum.

It’s not a very impressive list, really. But it’s enough for me, it’s A LOT of things to DO. And I don’t intend to fail at any of it.

I think it’s an excellent list…and good for you going to school…I wish I was brave enough to do that.

  2. Raven Says:

Thank you Tammy. Hefty goals…but I am determined.

    Very much so.

And a little nervous too. LOL

  3. Wild Thing Says:

Wow Raven you really are awesome. I admire you so much and I am so proud of you. You know how things will pop into our heads, nice things to think about. Knowing you is one of those things I was thinking about and I just want to thank you for your friendship.
All the very best to you this new year in all things.

  4. Tomslick Says:

    Happy New Year Raven.

My resolution is to only say nice things.

  5. Cao Says:

I haven’t really spent much time putting together a list, but mine is long, too. Good for you,Raven, sounds like a lot of things have changed for the better in your life, and more good things lie ahead. Your accounts of your work have always made me tired and amazed. To see that you’re taking it further makes me proud of you, like Chrissie said. God bless you and all that you do in 2007!

  6. Cao Says:

Of course I was always proud of what you do…reading your posts on Terri Schiavo was always an amazing experience.

  7. Raven Says:

Thank you Cao…it’s gonna be a tough few months for me lol starting next week. But I can handle it no problem. My work is my life away from home and it’s important to me…not just to do a good job but to make a difference in someone’s life.

  8. Raven Says:

LOL Tomslick- I thought about that, seriously. I was going to try and change THAT aspect of me..my mouth…but NO THANKS. I wouldn’t be ME without it.

    Heh.

  9. Weapon of Mass Disturbance Says:

I will disturb more people with my subversive rhetoric.
    I will lose weight.
    Two is plenty.

  10. Taxonomist Says:

Just whilst passing I couldn’t help but notice your swipe at Moslems and your statement to the effect that America has the moral high ground in all things.

Is that a racist statement on your part, would you say, or is it more an expression of a religious phobia? As a “foreigner” of undisclosed religious faith who has a few doubts about the unshakeable morality of the USA, I’d be interested to hear you elaborate on these (may I say) rather sweeping statements of yours.

  11. Taxonomist Says:

    P.S.
I read this and thought of you:

rac·ism /ˈreɪsɪzəm/ Pronunciation Key – Show Spelled Pronunciation[rey-siz-uhm] Pronunciation Key – Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun 1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
    2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
    3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

  12. Raven Says:

    Taxonomist:

    FUCK YOU.

When I saw your name I thought of a wussbagged, old wimpy, limp dicked non man. Who depends on Viagra.

  13. Cao Says:

bwahahahaha! Taxonomist. This is a post about New Year’s Resolutions, not the KKK; get a grip.

  14. Raven Says:

Cao— I think the TaxiMan needs to get a grip. On something.

  15. Taxonomist Says:

I think this is what they call the Chewbacca defense, where you spout a load of incoherent and threatening nonsense in the hope that the question or questioner will go away.

Why don’t you just deal with the point?

  16. Raven Says:

Taxfreak- when you present a comment that deals with the post I will DEAL with it. Until then-
    SHUT THE FUCK UP.

  17. Taxonomist Says:

As I say, the Chewbacca defense. How are things in racist bigotsville today?
