Nor’easter. Blizzard. Yankee Screamer.

Nor’easter. Blizzard. Yankee Screamer. Whatever you call it, a storm is brewing and one can SMELL it in the air. It was very cold out this morning but it’s warmed up. The sun was out through thick clouds for a part of the day; now it’s gone and the clouds are casting a certain pre-storm aura across the region. It’s going to be a wonderful Valentines Day here in New England!

New Hampshire’s mild winter is about to get nasty.

If meteorologists are right, a looming snowstorm promises to dump 12 to 18 inches of snow — or much more — on much of the state by tomorrow night. Central and northern parts of New Hampshire could get 18 to 30 inches. A mix of sleet and even rain near the Seacoast may hold accumulations down to 8 to 14 inches.

“The morning commute’s not going to be a lot of fun,” he said, “especially for those folks heading out of the Nashua area down toward Boston.”

Along with the snow and cold, forecasters are promising wind gusts topping 25 or 30 mph during the daytime. By midnight Wednesday, when the storm subsides, gusts could reach 50 mph, Dunham said.

We’re ready. We have our generators all charged up; food is cooked and stocked; plenty of wood is cut for pit fires; candles and kerosene lamps are ready for use…The kids are home- school has been canceled already; for fun the snowmobiles are gassed up;
my husband’s plow is ready to roll. It’s very possible that we will lose power at some point during this storm so blogging might be limited tomorrow. Stay safe New Englanders- we’re finally getting what we have been missing all season: WINTER!!

    We’ve had our share of storms over the last few days, too. My mom grew up in Concord; and she has shared with us many times, her memories of making real maple syrup and trudging through the deep snow (deep like I could never even imagine!) with buckets of sap while her mother boiled it down. After lots and lots of work, they’d end up with like a baby food jar of real syrup. I love New Hampshire.

    We haven’t had snow yet to speak of. I miss Alaska where it’s 40 feet deep on a bad day. I lived in Bennington which is close to Concord, before I moved to Alaska. I loved the area. My husband and kids and I harvested our own sap and made syrup. I jarred it up – enough for a whole year. It was hard work. But so good.

    I luve real syrup too. The store bought shit is just that:
    SHIT!!

    Cao I’ll send you some of my homemade sap next winter….mmMMmm….it’s so good.
