A World Without America
Posted by civil truth on February 21st, 2007
My mind is rather blank today. Hopefully I’m not about to suffer my infamous Lenten blogger’s cramp again this year. In the meanwhile, I have more great videos to share, though I’ll post no more than one a day.
On this penitential Ash Wednesday, I thought I’d select a pick-me up, a reminder that America still has friends across the Pond. This video, called A World Without America, was produced by 18 Doughty Street. As we reflect on how we as a nation can do better to live up to our ideals, we can also take comfort that the world is a better place with the U.S. in it. Enjoy.

A world without America would not exist. Plain and simple. The enemies of people would have taken over by now and there would be no freedom. Nevermind all that freedom GIVES.
Great post CT!!

Very on-point video, Civil Truth… if only the cut-off-their-noses-to-spite-their-faces institutions like the U.N. and various countries embraced the realities referred to in the video and worked with us instead of against us, as they seem to do at every opportunity, I believe the world would be exponentially better off security-wise, economically and a number of other ways.
It’s good to see there are Brits who appreciate this.
Great post!

UUgh…the UN…all they do is see the BAD in America. And exploit it.
Recently, they released a report claiming British children were the world’s worst off…and US children came in second. WHOA…our kids are the poorest, the most unhappy, the this, the that…all based on material things OF course and not based on tangible facts with evidence to support. No…the UN cannot change that.

Michael,
I’m not quite sure why this video (produced by friends in Britain who still remember the sacrifices the U.S. made on behalf of your parents and grandparents) aroused this diatribe from you. Nothing in the video denigrated anybody else; why do you need to denigrate the U.S?
Education is about learning critical thinking skills and using them to solve problems, not to find villains and scapegoats. I suggest you employ your skills to move beyond regurgitations of the shallow lessons you learn in school and in the popular press and to look more broadly at the issues you’ve raised.
Global warming – it’s a huge leap to go from CO2 emission data to a flat declaration that the U.S. is mostly responsible. Not to mention that human contribution to the current rise in global temperatures remains highly controversial (if you read beyond the sacred texts of the global warming priests). Not to mention that 20 years ago, global cooling was the hysteria of the day. And as an example of just one posting that defies the GW orthodoxy, here’s an interesting report from Germany.
Iraq – you neglect to consider the multitudes murdered by the Hussein regime. And even today, the number of American-caused civilian deaths pales into insignificance compared with the number of innocents murdered by other Iraqis militants for no other reason than to sow chaos.
Social work – my friends in the field (social workers, teachers, etc.) would take great offense at your Olympian judgment about their hearts. And if you’re talking about Katrina, you just haven’t seen the enormous outpouring of private labor and assistance by fellow-Americans that has rebuilt many communities in Mississippi and Alabama ravaged by the storm (but not covered in the press). New Orleans is not from lack of caring. And what nation led the way after the tsunamis.
Abused children – multinational corporations (e.g. Nike) are not American companies. And again, what nation (and whose citizens) are leading the campaign against child labor and sexual slavery?
Nationalism and patriotism – better the messiness of nations than the suffocating hand of transnational bureaucrats. Case in point is the heavy-handed dictates of E.U. bureaucrats in Brussels.
Michael, expand your vision. The internet beacons. And if there’s a specific topic you’d like some links to for genuine inquiry, write me at the e-mail address listed here and I’ll try to oblige.

Sorry, I didn`t want to denigrate the U.S. !!
I just wanted to show you that not eyrything is on the pink side and that everything people, nations, goverments do, has also it`s bad sides… You neither have to oblige anything…because about all these topics we`re discussing about you would find loads of material from both sides…positive and negative aspects; in the end everybody has to choose for himself which position he wants wants to fight for…

Michael,
When you’re constantly surrounded by people constantly pointing out everything they don’t like about you, you don’t need more people to pile on. Au contraire, it’s a needed dose of sanity and balance to be reminded by friends of the good that you do, and it’s even healthier to share that with our friends and readers here at ARS. Over and out…
