It’s a classic real estate play

Boston Mayor Mumbles is working hard to create his legacy. Already known for his passionate hatred of GUNS, his new focus is on building a new City Hall. And, this being Boston, and the state of MA, it won’t come cheap.
Mayor Thomas M. Menino on Monday will take some of the first concrete steps toward making his vision of a new headquarters for city government a reality.
A local design firm will begin a survey of city departments located at City Hall and other city-owned buildings in the Government Center area.
The firm, Stull and Lee, will examine how much office space is currently used by an array of 46 departments in these buildings, said Dot Joyce, the mayor’s press secretary.
Uh huh…46 departments of bloated excess.
Meanwhile, city officials will be ordering new property assessments, updating the value of the 1960s era City Hall as well as other city buidlings nearby. These include the school department’s headquarters at 26 Court St., and other buildings located on North, Hawkins and Richmond streets. Farther out, 1010 Massachusetts Ave. is also in play.
In addition, city officials are exploring the South Boston waterfront site Menino has chosen as the location for a new city complex and what can be built there, Joyce said.
Ordering new property assessments means increasing the asking price for this real estate. Bloating it up…to excess…to make a perceived profit. How dandy. Mumbles gets to chose where the new City Hall is to be located and the lemmings of the city have no say. That’s Boston for yah.
Such a deal might even make Menino enough money to pay for a new waterfront City Hall and even turn a profit, said Larry DiCara, a top Boston lawyer and former city councilor.
“It’s a classic real estate play,” DiCara said. “They might even make money in the process.”
Remember the Big Dig? And all the hype of how little it would cost, compared to how much money would be saved?? Same thing here. A new city hall complex isn’t really a bad idea for Boston; the idea of turning a profit in the process of building it IS a stupid stunt, a selling point, to the people. This is Boston. In the People’s Republic of Massachusetts. Where money is always lacking. Where citizens must shovel their own sidewalks in front of their homes, or face fines. Where citizens must allow local school districts to restrict recess and lunchtime chatter and all other forms of child mind control. Where citizens defend a Governor who uses state resources in an excessive manner before his first 90 days on the job are up. They get what they deserve- the people of MA and the people of Boston- where the great Tea Party once occurred…ironically- over being TAXED too much.

You know, when I see stuff like this I never fail to be at least a little surprised, no matter how often such things happen — these politicians are highly educated people who have gotten elected because the majority of the voters in their geographic subdivisions determined that they were best qualified to lead in government, yet what they produce once in office could be bettered by a six year old re logic, reason and the most rudimentary association with reality.
What’s really frightening is that there are always large numbers of people who will argue savagely in defense of these idiocies.

A lot of people? YOU mean, down in MA, the vast majority. Who continue to vote these money spending hogs into office. It’s almost unethical, too, what some of this really is. Mumbles is known as a bully and when he wants something…he gets it. The people of MA get what they deserve and that is shabby dishonest leadership. And very high taxes. For nothing. The services provided down in MA are sub par and poor quality at best.
