Off to Lake Placid
Posted by Duncan on September 15th, 2007
Since my time in upstate NY is going to be limited (hopefully, unless the paperwork gets lost in the shuffle), I am going to go and visit Lake Placid, even though it is a tad bit wet outside, cooling off and somewhat overcast. I am taking my camera so that if I can get a nice shot of something I can document my travels.
While I am away this morning and afternoon, here is my latest thought on this story…
Al Qaeda Offers Bounty for Murder of Swedish Cartoonist
CAIRO, Egypt — The leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq offered money for the murder of a Swedish cartoonist and his editor who recently produced images deemed insulting to Islam, according to a statement carried by Islamist Web sites Saturday.
…
“We are calling for the assassination of cartoonist Lars Vilks who dared insult our Prophet, peace be upon him, and we announce a reward during this generous month of Ramadan of $100,000 for the one who kills this criminal,” the transcript on the Web site said.
The Al Qaeda leader upped the reward for Vilks’ death to $150,000 if he was “slaughtered like a lamb” and offered $50,000 for the killing of the editor of Nerikes Allehanda, the Swedish paper that printed Vilks’ cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad with a dog’s body on Aug. 19.
…
“We have a real problem here,” Vilks told The Associated Press by telephone. “We can only hope that Muslims in Europe and in the Western world choose to distance themselves from this and support the idea of freedom of expression.”
(emphasis mine)
First of all.. nice Religion of Peace we got here. Peace be upon Muhammad even as we wish slaughter upon others. Sheesh. Good thing there is no enemy of the west in Iraq so we can run away as fast the Dhimmicrats can get us to. And Mr. Vilks… I would not hold your breath concerning the Muslims in Europe and the rest in the Western world. Seems that they are all to happy to sit by and do nothing while the rest of the radicals that make up their religion continue to spew death and hatred in the name of their god. Ridiculous to think that some nut isn’t going to be gunning for this guy.. with or without the bounty….. Good luck Mr. Vilks… I’d tell you to invest in a nice pistol for personal protection… but I doubt you can own one where you live, legally anyways.

Man . . . between you and Raven you ought to have some awesome frequent flyer miles saved up.
And don’t you two ever work anymore?

Yeah. You would think that that would be the case, both the miles and the work. But today is a weekend after all.
Anyways.. I only hiked about six miles today. I wasn’t prepared for any serious inclement weather, and the sun was in and out as well as some showers, so I didn’t want to hike all the way up to the top of Whiteface Mountain, I just hiked to the Whiteface Landing on Lake Placid. And I got a really nice picture. However, I didn’t bring the required cable to download said picture to my laptop. Real smooth of me, I know…. oh well… I plan to go tomorrow and hike all the way to the top. The weather will be better and I plan to get an early start so I can get the 12 miles in round trip…

Well it poured here yesterday until late afternoon, when it cleared up and the sun shone…and now it looks like it’s gonna be a great day for a hike! in fact a perfect day.
Believe it: In the next week or so it’s going to snow on Mt Washington…it starts early up there and lasts well into the spring. I’m doing a winter hike in February LOL..
And JD of course we work…Duncan is training.
And I am getting back into the swing of it. I earned almost an entire YEAR of paid time off- thanks to working 100 hour weeks for a year! So I took advantage of all that paid time off…and I also took a check for some of that as well. I worked doubles 6 days a week for nearly a year so I deserve a summer of goofing off and traveling.
hell yeah!
