A little Housekeeping

I went in and made some changes last evening.
Lately I have noticed this site’s load time was getting slow. I don’t like THAT. I checked out the issues and found the problems…and have cleaned house so to speak. What’s different?
-I removed the Support Israel banner that was up on the left corner.
-I changed the number of Recent Posts and Recent Comments displayed
-I disabled the SNAP PREVIEW plugin
-I took down the Never Forget Flash image ( A HUGE SLOWER-DOWNER )
-I ditched the ADD THIS Subscribe button that was in the About Raven section and at the end of each post
-I moved the Subscribe to Email Alerts Box to my Personal Stuff Page
-I removed the Abortions Since Iraq War banner located in the Life Counts section ( YET ANOTHER slower downer )
-I moved MOST of the blog rolls to their own separate page.
(Blog Rolling is a KNOWN speed robber!)
These things we bogging down site load time; they were also causing problems with viewing the site w/certain browsers. It was taking over a minute for the site to load up…now that time is less than 5 seconds! Yeehaw!!
I like a site to be as simple as possible. As little bling as possible; no ads; no fancy sidebar widgets and other items that distract from the real content. At the same time everyone wants their own blog to be a personal expression of who they are…I think I have managed to keep this simple yet personal to me.
As of today, this site has almost 4000 posts; 12,000 comments (and I have deleted MANY hundreds more lol); stats show that we have had over 3 million hits in two years; daily we get about 2500 visitors- of which just over 500 are regular visitors who come back. Not to bad for a site that wasn’t supposed to be around for more than a year.
AND certainly not too bad considering I don’t do PORN SHOTS to get HITS either. I may swear a lot but at least I have some morals and I don’t rely on culture rot to get a higher number of visits.

Which skin do you like best? Gun Girl or Antique Americana??

I like the brighter look of the gun girl but like the graphics of the other.

Ok…makes sense and I’ve heard the same thoughts from others.
