The Quiet Noise Israel Made

Posted by Raven on October 6th, 2007

A couple weeks ago I read an article over at To The Point, a site authored by Dr. Jack Wheeler. There had been a lot of chatter about the Israelis taking down a Syrian nuke facility.

On September 6, Israeli Air Force F-15 and F-16s conducted a devastating attack on targets deep inside Syria near the city of Dayr az-Zawr. Israel’s military censors have muzzled the Israeli media, enforcing an extraordinary silence about the identity of the targets. Massive speculation in the world press has followed, such as Brett Stephens’ Osirak II? in yesterday’s (9/18) Wall St. Journal.

And today, Ed Morrisey points out:

The Israelis, who actually originated the “Bush doctrine” decades ago, appear to be the only nation still using it. They probably have concluded that they cannot rely on American will to protect them from Syria and Iran any longer, especially after this episode. The US opposed the raid up to the moment it occurred, afraid of destabilizing the region. Israel, more worried about the consequences of a nuclear Syria — something that should worry us as well — simply ignored Washington after weeks of argument and acted in its own self-interest.

And note that Syria has not lifted a finger in retaliation. Assad knows well that Israel would annihilate his forces in a straight-up fight, and the raid confirmed it. They had to know that Israel would attack that facility if they discovered it, and Syria had to have some defense ready against it. In the event, Israel flew unmolested across the widest part of their airspace, devastated their facility, and flew home as if on an El Al jaunt.

And Syria is still silent. Shocked and a little awed I am sure. Once again, a nation stands up to defend itself against an enemy hell bent to destroy it. America hasn’t seen the war like the Israelis have; we saw 9-11, and for most that wasn’t the wake up call…will it take suicide bombings on our streets to cause us to shudder and shake up our complacent mindsets? Israel will not allow regimes to go nuclear and it’s a damn good thing. I only wish the US had the balls to do the dirty work here. Some day we very well may have to.

Except that Israel, like the US, of course finds a convenient defense to excuse its own nuclear capabilities, and have so far resisted any attempt to even discuss the issue.

Are you crazy or just stupid? They just killed a bunch of people and then muzzled the media! And what do you mean by: “Once again, a nation stands up to defend itself against an enemy hell bent to destroy it.” You have to be attacked first to be on the defensive Jack. Hell bent?! Do you remember what happened to the Native American? First they take some land then a little bit more. Finally, 90% of your people are alcholics. That’s hell bent you fricking Piece of animal dong.
