Tuesday Morning News And Links
How much money have the Democrats raised over the past few years by using Bush as a foil? Bush has been a blessing for progressives; they’ve gained power and made profits by declaring him the Worst Person in the World.
The debate over the entitlements crunch will cease to be academic on Jan. 1, when the first of the 78 million surviving boomers will turn 62 and become eligible for Social Security. (Just yesterday the nation’s first baby boomer applied for Social Security benefits.) Even this approaching landmark, however, has not shaken the what-me-worry set. The Democratic presidential front-runner – Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y. – has all but ruled out any significant changes. Meanwhile, it is increasingly common to hear DailyKos.com pundits and rising young liberal commentators such as Matthew Yglesis assert there is no entitlements crisis – that it’s all a “neocon” plot of nefarious origin.
Meanwhile over in Europe we read this:
In a judgment, the European Court of Justice said that even though discrimination based on age was illegal, the imposition of the 65-year threshold for workers can be justified to stabilize the labor market and if proper pension is provided.
[...]
A court statement said that since it was part of national labor measures to promote employment “the legitimacy of such an aim of public interest cannot reasonably be called into question.”If the court had ruled against the pension system, it would have caused widespread disruption of social and economic policies throughout the 27-nation EU.
AUTUMN has arrive in full color…
The road that leads to my place:
Looking up!

The foliage pics remind me what I have missed this fall. All these drab green trees slowly dropping their brown leaves just are not the same a s NH fall colors.
Greetings from South Texas. It’s too cool for the pool today — only mid 70’s.
Besides, I got a sunburn yesterday.
Now, what’s all this about leaves?

Thank GOD and not ‘mother nature’ for Autumn and such a wonderful foilage of natural fireworks!
Hey Rob yes I have heard it’s really dry down your way. That sucks. Up here it’s very lush and colorful…today’s been foggy and humid most the day and cooler; the color is just fantastic. We had a wet summer though…and as far as I can recall we’ve always had colorful autumns.
Hey JD we get burned up here in the fall. And the winter too- in fact it can be much worse in the winter. LOL
Temps today around 70; humid, foggy. Typical New England mid fall day. I love it.
