Denying responsibility

As you read this and the article it’s linked from, don’t ask where society is headed. You don’t want to know.
“Five years? Ten years? That’s ridiculous,” said LaToya Bell, 22, sitting on a porch with four others who nodded in agreement. “They (are) getting time for nothing. That girl, she knew what she was doing.”
I am speechless.

Raven, its the same thing as the other wolves’ families wondering why they’re loved ones are dead because they committed a felony and someone shot them dead. This is the Brave New World™ that the Party of Stupid™ has worked the last 50 years to create….

While I often am skeptical of cultural explanations for behavior, here I think that this attitude, this desensitization must reflect the constant Rap lyrics and street ethic that “women are ho’s” and all the other debasements that go along with that. After a while, if you don’t have the strength of character to resist this message (especially if you aren’t exposed to alternatives), you start to believe it about yourself and you then project on those around you to preserve some semblance of self.
I don’t want to get too psychological here, but the statement does reflect a grave breakdown in the bonds holding together this section of black society.
