The End Times
Posted by Raven on July 7th, 2008
And now back to our regularly scheduled programming. Sorry for the invasion of Leftards yesterday. I spent all night cleaning their messes and piles of shit….
Did you hear this??
The end of the Internet is near — and in less than three years, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
The reason? More than 85% of the available addresses have already been allocated and the OECD predicts we will have run out completely by early 2011.
Oh my. Let’s call his Royal Highness (Albore) himself, he who invented the Internet, to stop the end of the Internets. Maybe he can hijack this “issue” and turn it into some mass money making, politically correct. scientifically unproven “cause” (Global Warming anyone?)…that so many will embrace blindly.

I read an article that talked ’bout the successor to the internet. Unbelievably faster. But like the initial internet, it is limited to the academic and government realm. Let me see if I can find that article..

Ok. Found it. Its called The Grid. And here’s a link to the article.. Looks promising…

Does Albore have anything to do with the Grid????

While the Fox headline is overly dramatic (to attract attention), the linked Times Online (UK) article points out the real problem, which does seem genuine, but hardly an unexpected eventuality.
Basically, as the article notes, the number of possible IP addresses under the current protocol is finite, around 4 billion, and the world is reaching the limits of those addresses. Ten years ago, the engineers created an expanded system that can accomodate many more addresses, but it requires new hardware to implement, which means spending money on infrastructure. (Though the Times article didn’t mention it, we’ll probably need new network software, but that will be a minor expenses compared with the hardware cost, I would suspect.) As rational actors, people haven’t wanted to invest in upgrading before such expenditure is necessary. Now were getting closer to that time.
Sort of like what happened with computer memory: we went from 16bit to 24 bit to 32bit to 64bit as programs became increasing ravenous for physical memory beyond the mathematical limits of the number of available memory addresses. Each upgrade in required memory required investment in hardware and software to accomodate.
Bottom line: there will be a lot of wailing and nashing of teeth and calls for governments to step in and rescue us all, and eventually we’ll muddle through to implementing the next generation of IP addresses. There’s too much commerce and investment to let the system fall apart.
I’ve seen mention of successor systems to the internet, but haven’t read much about them. However, they’ll probably start with privileged users and eventually expand outward, like the internet did. In light of technological advances, the whole process will probably take much shorter than the cycle that led to today’s internet.

Assuming, that is, that the Goracle™ doesn’t decide to go on a crusade to save us from IP extinction like he wants to save the world from global
cooling warmingclimate change. If he jumps in, then indeed, the End may be at hand. :smile:July 7th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
Ok. Found it. Its called The Grid.
The Grid? Sounds like a forerunner of The Matrix?
July 7th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
Hmm, if all the leftards would just follow their own climate change tenents and get of the Interwebz, it would be OK
Good to see ya got everything fixed. Sadly, No! = raving wackjobs. Well, I guess that pretty much is 99.9% of the lefty websites.

Besides, what else do you expect from a site that spends the vast majority of its posts on assaulting other bloggers?
July 7th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
I know that they call referrals from Instapundit “instalanches” and the such… does that mean we suffered douchealanche yesterday?
July 7th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Perhaps, but, and I’d have to ask a woman their opinion, but, I believe a douche is sometimes useful. Maybe a dogwipinghisbuttonthecarpetlanche? :)
I was reading some of their unhinged comments, always good for a laugh.

A douche is NEVER useful unless you’re a whore/slut/prostitute.
There are SOME medical uses for douches though- but not to be used in the context here.
BWAHAHA

Oh puleeze. A SadlyNo launche? Don’t give them more reason to be swell-headed…they have enough issues with their over inflated egos. Gah they make my skin crawl- limp dicked whiney college kids who have never had to work a real day of labor in their sorry spoiled ass lives.

Yes I upgraded the site myself last night Teach…bit the big one and just did it. The site survived, LOL.
SN= Moronic Morons who simply hate America. And they get a laugh on it.

I like the idea of an alternative Internet, which I’ve heard many stories about. It’ll happen if “this” internet gets too expensive, regulated or oversighted. Free markets will prevail!
