I'm an American Muslim living in NC. I was born and raised here and I'm as patriotic as you are. My parents were born and raised here... and THEIR parents were too... The first thing I'd like to say about this is that it's the first time I've heard anything about the 9/11 memorials even HAVING crescents! You should not assume that we all know this and we're just sitting back chuckling about it. Most people probably don't know what the proposed memorials look like. You are right that we pray facing Northeast. You are right that the crescent is typically accepted as an Islamic symbol worldwide. I don't see how that has any connection to AlQaeda however. I find it ironic that the architect has a crescent that "points" (not sure how a crescent can point in any one direction as it has two points) toward Mecca, but rather than assuming conspiracy wouldn't it be wise to ask first? If it was an ignorant mistake, you have just demonized the man to the point that I wouldn't be surprised if some redneck didn't shoot him for it. I think rather than asking people to come "tackle the terrorist" you should have them "ASK the ARCHITECT" and request that he change the shape to a square or V and to have it face a direction other than Northeast.
