More Garden Shots
Posted by Raven on August 10th, 2008
I uploaded a whole bunch more pictures I took the other day, of my garden.

And some how, I need to figure out how to make this atrocity fit into the grand scheme of things…I love my barbecue pit, but it needs to LOOK better. I can’t imagine what plants or flowers to place around it…hmm.
Next year we’re going to work on the lawn…getting IT greener. Not as in GREEN ENVIRONMENT GREEN, but just simply…greener in color. Meanwhile, I’m going out to play in the yard for the afternoon. Heh. I’m gonna teach the birds and bees a few things.

Oh, BEAUTIFUL, Raven!
I’m ashamed to admit that – with all the traveling I’ve been doing this summer (and other, er, “incidents” you may recall) – my garden looks like a ratty weed patch. My Beloved did get some HOT jalapenos and some yummy radishes, though, so I suppose it wasn’t a complete loss.
As for your BBQ pit, maybe you could rebuild it with brick or local stones? Kinda hard to have plants right around it because of the heat. Do you have a pic that shows your BBQ pit from a greater distance so I can get an idea of what’s around? Perhaps I’d be able to make a better suggestion…

Kat, I have to tell you the veggie garden isn’t doing as well as it could. We’ve had a lot of rain this summer so that is a big factor. We have lots of lettuce, carrots, squashes, tomatoes…but the beans and radishes and spuds, herbs have not done good.
The flowers surprised me. We dug them all up and re-planted them to open up the lawn. I really thought they would die or wither away. But they’ve thrived and I really am proud…this has been one heck of a lot of work. I’m home during the days now as well as weekends, so I have more time to tend to this stuff. Before, working weekends and various days during the week took me away.
The pit? J is going to rip it up (LOL and he will with his bare hands) and build another one for next summer. We’re gonna use NH granite and bricks, along with some cast iron elements. He has a whole plan made for it (on paper, done on his computer..using his special program for such things, LOL!!!) This THING sits in the middle of the side yard, like a sore thumb. The new one will be over in a corner off the deck, accessible, easy on the eye, yet not sticking out like the thumb. We won’t need to plant around it cause IT will go where some plants already are…I think part of the plan is to build a roof thing over it making it 4 seasonal. YEAH.

Duncan get yer mind of out of gutter. I meant that I was going to do some pest control…using my vinegar and other special potions…to teach the bees, the bugs, the birds, the rodents some LESSONS they won’t forget. LOL!!!

Raven, what you said J has planned sounds like it will be PERFECT! And the roof will be great – I know you love to grill and BBQ, so having it 4 season will be more fun for you ;-)
Did you suggest maybe an outlet for a little fridge (for beeah and any meats you need to keep cold before grilling)…?

Oh yes…and a prep table too. Like a kitchen island…only better. Made of granite! I can’t wait for it to become real and not some design on paper. (In a big builder binder) BWAHAH
