The Newly Anointed One: Sir Joe Biden

Posted by Raven on August 23rd, 2008

We’ve been hearing rumors all week about who the Messiah would anoint as his co- Lord. Now we know- via a neatly written and well wrapped scroll a text message: Sir Joe Biden.

:notworthy:

Barack Obama is preparing to appear on stage Saturday afternoon with his running mate for the first time after announcing early in the morning that he had picked Delaware Sen. Joe Biden for the second spot on the Democratic presidential ticket.

The announcement ended days of frenzied speculation about who his vice president pick would be, with Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine and Indiana Senator Evan Bayh remaining strong contenders as late as Friday evening.

Oh my. Is this good or bad? Depends upon who you ask. Watching a little news this morning, the media is in a orgasmic frenzy over teh JoeMan. Good grief.

NYT Headline:
Obama Adds Foreign Expertise to Ticket

Moderate Voice Headline:
The Joe Biden That I Know & Admire

ABC News:
Veteran Senator Brings Foreign Policy Experience, Gravitas to Democratic Ticket

And, reaction from the nuttyroots- H/T to Teach @ Pirates Cove:

** I checked. It’s really too bad. I thought he’d pick someone better. Oh well. They still get my vote because the alternative is a guaranteed World War III.

**now that the internet creators of the obama product have all those email addresses how soon do you think they’ll be sending campaign donation solicitation messages? All hose addresses will go into Democratic party lists……I wonder if they’ll be available to marketers? If they’re part of a political campaign are they public property now? (aha! someone gets the point of the phone list)

**f*ck I’m drunk. maybe I will wake up tomorrow and the Biden part will be gone.

**I’M MAD If Biden is the VP then i would have wanted Obama to send me a text earlier today before the crazed media got hold of this information. I can see it now, me holding up a newspaper tomorrow morning saying “BIDEN FOR VP!” while I get my text message at 10am saying the same thing. This would make me mad at Obama b/e it makes this text out the VP seen like a scam just to get my number. (then again, when is a DUmmy not mad?)

**Obama chooses Mr. Screw the People for VP, Corporate Lackey Joe Biden stands in the wings, Hillary in pants. I might be wrong and what America really needs is someone knows how to kneel and tongue banker booty.

When I think of SirJoe the greaseball, I think of numerous rants he’s made, similar to the one mentioned here in today’s WaPo:

PICKING UP our dusty copy of Joe Biden’s autobiography the other day, we were struck by two points that underscore Mr. Biden’s value to Barack Obama as his running mate. The first was the degree to which the young Biden’s message, as a 29-year-old Senate candidate in 1972, anticipated the themes struck by Mr. Obama more than three decades later. “We must have public officials who will stand up and tell the people exactly what they think,” Mr. Biden said in announcing his candidacy.

I don’t need anyone telling me what I think. I’m my own person, and sorry Sir Slimepit Joe, you have no right to tell me what to think.

This campaign just got a whole lot more fun. I think Obama’s made a huge mistake here and this selection of teh running mate will backfire big time. With Obama’s rockstah persona, and now Biden’s big umchecked mouth, things should get more exciting and soon.

Biden is just about as clueless as BHO.

  2. dj Says:

You didn’t finish the WaPo article, did you? Because the very next sentence following your quote says….

“Our failure in recent years has not been the failure of the people to meet the challenges placed before them, but rather the failure of both our great political parties to place those challenges honestly and courageously before the people.”

He is talking about one of the biggest problems in American government: The lack of educated public participation in politics. This is what Obama’s Unity campaign is about. Getting more American citizens to make educated choices about American politics. The WaPo article finishes up by comparing Obama and Biden and saying that they are a good pair.

How the hell you though Biden wants to tell the American people what to think is beyond me.

    Go back to school

  3. Raven Says:

Uh, Dj he said it, not me. If he meant what you think he meant, he is smart enough to have been clearer. Biden is saying, without any doubt, that the polcats are the ones who define the issues and problems, not the peons. Sadly, you miss the point. Which is, government for the people BY the people….not government by the elected for everyone else. A typical liberal mindset…

I did read the whole WP article and it’s obvious to me Biden is the perfect mate for Obama. One is stupid and the other is dumb. Both want to take away more freedoms for the people…and liberals are too blind to see this. One speaks well but knows little; the other speaks terribly and offends many- the perfect combo. Losers.

  4. dj Says:

There is no mindset about it. Were not even talking about Biden. Were talking about 5th grade reading skills, because thats the standard way news is written. Just because the WaPo broke-up Biden’s quote with “Mr. Biden said in announcing his candidacy.” doesn’t mean Biden was quoted twice. I’m not crazy for Biden but I thought what he said back then was insightful and still relevant.

I think you tow the Republican line a little too hard. Not every opinion different from yours is liberal, dumb, or stupid.

  5. zoey Says:

i think biden will make it a more fun — shall i say mocking — campaign. at least he isn’t boring like kaine and bayh. rush limbaugh was hoping for biden too because he is dying to mock him.

btw, love the new look on your blog.

  6. Weebs Says:

I thought The High and Exalted One was running on a campaign of Change (and Hope and Magical Unicorns ridden by Elves) and he goes and picks a guy who has spent the last 35 years in Washington.

    What a moron.

  7. Bigfoot Says:

Faced with with the task of running against an old white guy, BHO decided to get his own old white guy.

  8. Carlos Says:

Go back to school, indeed! Where do you think the blind sheepness of the Obamessiah comes from to begin with?

I fail to see the connection of following his holiness to the ability of fifth graders to ensure they won’t become pregnant from a robust cucumber, and that’s the most important thing taught in schools today, accoording to the NEA.

The syntax as interpreted by Raven was absolutely as correct as your take. Had Biden meant what you interpreted from his comment, he could have so stated that instead of the ambiguous garbage he did.

  9. civil truth Says:

VP candidates rarely win elections; in the end, it comes down to the two Presidential candidates. Rarely, a poor VP pick can seriously damage the ticket (e.g. Thomas Eagleton), but Biden is not such a candidate, especially with the media covering his flanks, calling his verbosity and pomposity profundity, and deep-sixing his gaffes.

Selecting Biden is mostly a reflection of internal Democratic politics, shoring up Obama’s support with the Kennedy wing (and their deep pockets) while betting that Hillary and the vast majority of PUMAs will vote for him in the end, finding themselves constitutionally unable to vote for a Republican. Probably an accurate assessment, despite all the screams of anguish right now, especially if the McCain team continues to overplay their hand regarding Hillary.

Overall, despite what I’ve been reading from most Republican commentators, I think Biden is a solid defensive pick for Obama; also, under media protection, Biden will be able to take some sharp shots at the Republican ticket with impunity.

  10. ThinkingMeat · Raven’s unsurprising dishonesty Says:

[...] Normal people would read that and understand that in that last sentence, the word “they” refers to “public officials”. Of course, Raven is not a normal person. Raven is a lying wingnut who is always willing to twist someone else’s words in the service of her blind hatred of honest discussion: [...]

  11. Raven Says:

    Dj,

It is a mindset problem. And Biden spoke it perfectly. You cannot get it because you live it.

And you’re right about different ideas and opinions being okay…I’m all for it and read different thoughts all the time. I hear them on TV everytime I watch the news. The media does a great job at being fair and balanced…(NOT) It’s okay so long as it’s the same and we agree. When we don’t agree, Republicans are bad, too. As is every idea, thought and opinion we have. So don’t play that old game with me.

Biden has said these statements before. Do I have source? No. But I have heard him on the news shows and he’s one of those liberals who believe peons cannot and should not think for themselves. Oh wait…one of those liberals? How about ALL liberals.

  12. Raven Says:

Oh good lord Meaty must have run out of Mountain Dew and Jergens.

    :feedtroll:

  13. Raven Says:

CT, you’re correct. VP candidates don’t usually make or break campaigns. I can’t help but wonder though, about this one being different. Biden’s got a big mouth. He speaks his mind and I absolutely respect that even though I disagree with almost everything he says. He’s a pistol. A blowhard. The opposite of Obama…who is reserved, elegant, well spoken (with flash cards of course)…I think Biden is going to prove to be an embarrassment to Obama. I really do. And this choice will come back to bite him.
