Kerry and Obama: Similar Endings
Susan Estrich pens an interesting opinion here. A rabid Hillary supporter, she is of course biased in her thoughts. She suggests that Hillary’s fans are not going to bow down to Obama and many will vote for McCain just to spite the ONE. The part that got my attention however, was how Obama’s campaign is failing to get its message out:
However they end up voting, the bottom line is that this Convention is not “working” the way it’s supposed to for Barack Obama. What he wanted – and what he needed, at the very least — was a celebration of his nomination, an introduction to the country that would convince them that Harvard Law School and bestselling books, a fancy house and Ivy League wife notwithstanding, he understands the problems of average Americans of every race, and has specific plans and the necessary experience to solve them. That was what John Kerry tried to do four years ago in Boston. Most Democrats left that Convention convinced that he had. But in retrospect, even that wasn’t enough.
Ahh yes…the lessons of the John Kerry debacle.
Let’s look at that for a moment:
Kerry was (and still is) a classic America Hater; his youthful expressions of this hate came back to haunt him- many of his own words were turned on him at a time when people wanted some one who had some pride in this country. When people expected their leader to love this country enough to defend it…Kerry’s past, his voting record and his constant globe trotting to other nations for the sole purpose of ass kissing American hating world leaders made Democrats and others believe, correctly, that Kerry would NOT defend America. Never mind his complete lack of understanding of the other issues average Americans held to importance. His wife mouthed off anti American words often as she reaped the rewards of a wealthy lifestyle.
When he proudly reported for duty, Americans wondered, “Who are you pledging your allegiance and duty to?”
Obama?
It seems to me he is repeating these scripts. He’s certainly had some questionable youthful activities and kept the company of unwise and arrogant and controversial men; he’s made it clear he loves America but with strings attached. His Ivy League wife comes across as an ungrateful spoiled brat. (She is.) Obama has embarked upon a Magical Mystery Tour of the world, and attempted to stand where great men have stood, to speak as if he were a great man. His campaign has branded him President already with his own special seal. They have successfully surrounded him with an aura of mystique and glowing props.
Obama is going to the bank with hopes that his well planned, well scripted show will impress enough people into voting for him.
Kerry spent his whole life, planned it and scripted it for the moment when he would accept his party’s nomination.
He lost the election in spite of all his work towards his end goal.
Lemoncrats don’t seem to learn from history. They repeat mistakes and re-frame their ideas under the umbrella of HOPE. We hear CHANGE a lot too from them.
Perhaps it’s time they realize that we Americans are hopeful, thank you very much.
And we like change to so long as it doesn’t mean exchanging our values, morals and national security just to be popular.
