In support of the Palin family in this dark but glorious hour [Updated]
Lest anyone, humor-challenged or other, not understand where I’m coming from in my post immediately below:
I support 100% the nomination of Governor Sarah Palin for Vice President and stand in sympathy and support of the Palin family during this challenging time that they face with their daughter Bristol.
I pronounce anathema on the subhuman slime who first spread baseless and abhorrent rumors about Gov. Palin’s fifth child being her daughter Bristol’s child and upon the feckless filth who subsequently are twisting the announcement of Bristol’s pregnancy into a grotesque attack upon Bristol Palin, Levi Johnston, and their unborn child, and upon Sarah’s fitness to serve in office and judgmental condemnation of the Palin family parenting skills.
And I entertain utter disdain for those media personages and media organization in this fine land who have prostituted all journalistic principles and brought down American political discourse to uprecedented and inconceivable depths of degradation, tearing down hitherto unbreached barriers of ethical restraint, in their persecution of Bristol Palin and their lust to destroy by innuendo and guilt-by-parentage the political career of Gov. Palin for strictly partisan and vindictive reasons unmoored from any sense of honesty or integrity.
I trust there are no questions as to where I stand.
[Update 9/3/2008 12:30am] I’ve added the names of Levi Johnston, Bristol’s boyfriend, and their unborn child to the second paragraph, because the cowardly brownshirts behind this character assassination attempt have now decided to set their sights on also destroying the lives of both Bristol, and her boyfriend, and thereby also take out their unborn child. The latest media agent of destruction is Wenner Media who in this week’s issue of Us Weekly have lauched a savage attack of the two teens along with an assault on Gov. Palin. (A most jarring juxtaposition to their goddess worship of Michelle Obama in last week’s issue.)
Not to mention the illegal public release today of Gov. Palin’s social security number (1st five digits) along with other sensitive personal data that will leave her exposed to criminal identity theft activity and potential hacking of her medical and other statuatorily protected records.
I now must condemn the Obama campaign at least materially complicit, if not actually being behind these attacks, as they try to deflect responsibility through their tepid, ineffective criticisms while their proxies launch their nuclear missiles at the Palin family. If they don’t call a halt to this now, they must bear the eternal judgment of history for this unprecedented assault on the foundations of American representative democracy.

Totally agree, but I thought her name was Sarah :hmm:
Thanks for alerting me to this lapse. I’ve corrected her first name.
Great speech. Unfortunately, the personal is political for career politicians. Journalistic integrity flew out the window when FDR was photographed in a wheelchair.
Yeah, CT, but why don’t you tell us how you really feel?
BTW, spot on.
I don’t have any special insight, but I think the criticism of her will backfire. The only legitimate criticisms of a candidate are A) their positions, B) their competence, and C) their character. People are trying to stretch C to include this, because they have a predetermined set of views that conservatives must be hypocrites, and everything is reinterpreted in that light. Not many will change their minds, but a few will be appalled and reconsider.
Now who has a messianic impulse?
“I pronounce anathema…”
I guess this means that from now on you will only be sliming and slandering those who deserve it. That will be entertaining,
Ice
AVI,
Glad you stopped by. I’m sorry I haven’t visited your site in probably a year or so, but that happened to many of the blogs I used to regularly visit. I would hope that there’d be enough backlash that would put a halt to this degeneration of news coverage to rumor and innuendo, which unchecked will discredit the entire jouranlistic enterprise as people abandon trust (which steadily diminishes with each lurch downwards).
I wholeheartedly agree with you CT. This is just pure, blatant, partisan politics coupled with the politics of personal destruction. These people who question Palin’s ability to be VP because she is a mother of 5, yet somehow champion women’s rights just blow my mind with their cognitive disconnect. I personally have done everything I can to prevent those who spread the “Obama is a Muslim” rumor because I believe it is not true, and it takes away from the fact the Obama is a Marxist and we should focus on that instead. It is truly telling though they haven’t really focused on Palin’s politics or positions with half the gusto as they have on some sort of scandal. Its pathetic and sad…
Makes one wonder about the Obama daughters…. will they be neglected by their father as he is busy being PRESIDENT (as opposed to Vice-President?!?!)
HERE YEE.
I am so ticked off over all this it makes me, leaves me speechless.
I’m getting some thoughts together on it all and will try to post something tomorrow. :ptbaa:
“I now must condemn the Obama campaign at least materially complicit, if not actually being behind these attacks….”
You really need to be careful about making accusations like this without proof. You’ve made them before in past posts. Obama has spoke out on the Palin scandal on CNN, NYTimes, and is scheduled to speak on FOX this Thursday. You just did exactly what your protesting against, engage in sleazy journalism. I know this is a small time blog, but in a just world you would be called out on this type of libel. Hypocrite.
dj,
I spent quite a while assessing your criticism, but it remains my view, based on the totality of the sequence of events that have transpired, what I’ve read and seen in campaigns, and the past behavior of the Obama campaign, that the campaign could have stopped the press from going over the cliff if they had exerted themselves more fully. The Obama campaign cannot hermetically seal itself off from culpabiity simply on the basis of a single press conference
As this continues to go on and everything escales, the idea that everybody in the media are acting as “out-of-control freelancers” becomes steadily more implausible. The tipping point for me occurred when I came across last night the two items that I described in my update. The icing on the cake was the despicable polical cartoon in our local paper today that was identified as taken from MSNBC.com.
Now it’s true that I could have been more helpful or persuasive by laying out a trail of links to explain to readers why I’ve come to my position. And if were trying to convince you, then I should expect to have to provide more evidence. But that’s not what I’m doing here. Rather I’m issuing here a rallying call for those who agree with me, not trying to change minds.
Sometimes you’ve just got to scream.
It doesn’t mater what your “view” of the situation is, what maters is your actions. You made statements that are untrue. Even in your response you lie. The statement “The Obama campaign cannot hermetically seal itself off from culpability simply on the basis of a single press conference” is a lie. Obama has spoke to three major MSM news venues, one of which is very anti-Democratic party (FOX). Its not the DNC’s or Obama’s job to police the media for the Republican party. The fact that they are trying to mitigate the situation at all shows real leadership on their part. I’m glad your not trying to convince people of views, because it would be sad to see how many people believe your hype.
dj,
I’m not clear what you mean by “he’s spoken to three MSM networks, one of which is Fox” as differing from what I wrote. I read news reports in CNN and the NYT by reporters attending his press conference in Monroe MI on Monday. (While I don’t remember seeing the story, it is plausible that a Fox reporter also reported on that press conference.) So far, we still seem to be describing the same single event, it would seem, but phrasing it differently.
If you’re saying that he’s actually conducted interviews on other occasion(s) with these papers regarding the Sarah Palin coverage matter since that press conference, I’ve missed seeing the stories about those meetings. You did say in your preceding comment that he was scheduled to speak with Fox on Thursday, but today’s Wednesday so that wouldn’t have happened yet. We’ll have to see what happens tomorrow, and what comes up about Gov. Palin.
What is obvious is that what you view as mitigation efforts by his campaign I see as seriously inadequate thus far.
I do not appreciate your throwing out the “liar” word repeatedly to mark our disagreements: that suggests you do not wish to converse in good-faith. You are a guest here, behave yourself.
Or perhaps we need to stick to debating topics, which are plentiful, on which we can maintain civil discussion amidst disagreement. Your call.
debate topics, make speeches, whatever…. my criticism is that your accusing someone of doing something without proof. That’s wrong. When you wrote “I now must condemn the Obama campaign at least materially complicit, if not actually being behind these attacks….while their proxies launch their nuclear missiles at the Palin family.” your saying that Obama is behind these attacks. Prove it. It doesn’t matter if your just trying to fire-up people that have the same point as you (its actually worse). Your making accusations about someone and placing the burden of proof on them. That’s very unethical. Obama can pee on Palin’s car and it still doesn’t change the fact that your spreading rumors that you can’t prove are true. Do you get it? its not about Obama or Palin. Its about you loosing your credibility because you make up stories about people without any proof as to what you say.
Dj,
Regarding your latest comment, I applaud you for the purest example of trolling I have read in a long time.
(I also do appreciate your responsiveness to my reminder about manners by laying off the ad hominem remarks.)
If you’re wondering what is the key characteristic that distinguishes trolling, it is the incessant demands for “proofs” that leads only to a hall of mirrors.
As your prize, I will give you several links to check out should you decide that you want to take a more inquiring approach:
1) Check out here and here regarding the background behind Us Magazine and their cover hit job this week on the extended Palin family (including Levi), compared with their fawning treatment of Michelle Obama not too long ago.
And then I’d ask, given how publisher Jann Wenner has so publicly identified himself as a supporter of Obama: do you honestly think he would have gone forward with this issue if the Obama campaign had told him that they considered such stories were off-limits? And no, I don’t require more “proof” before I am permitted to draw my own conclusions.
2) And in case you want to see how some on the left side of the blogosphere have viewed these attacks on the Palins, check out this blog post It’s Over. We’ve lost. (Again, this is to expand your mind, not my finding someone who echoes my opinions exactly.)
Or take a look at the PUMA blogs (or blogs by other disenchanted Hillary supporters) here for example and see what they’ve been saying about the way Sarah Palin has been treated and who they think are involved in treating her so ill. I’m not the only one pointing fingers at the Obama crew. That’s PUMA as in Party Unity My Ass…
**********
By the way, I do note that Joe Biden this morning called for restraint, signaling that the Obama campaign may be starting to back down now.
My interpretation (no, I don’t have “proof” since I’m not a fly on the wall) is that what’s going on is what happens with cowardly bullies after they pick a target and start trying to intimidate that person. When instead of surrendering, that person fearlessly and bravely stands up to them and gives them a bloody nose in return - at that point the bullies decide that a change in tactics may be in order. That’s where I see us at this moment as I await to see what Obama will have to say next.
Fortunately, the whole affair does look to be starting to wind down. I am relieved that the “foundations of American representative democracy” will remain standing. I wasn’t so sure of that early yesterday.
Indeed, Gov. Palin’s performance last night already shows signs of dousing the media flames. As some observers have noted, these attacks evidently galvanized many to watch the speech last night who otherwise would have ignored it.
Proving once again that karma is a bitch. One who can certainly take care of herself.

Well Dj, this exchange has certainly been a learning and growing experience for me in terms of standing up for myself. Thank you.
Wow… you still don’t get it. you made a statement that’s not true. it doesn’t mater what the media says, you made a statement that’s not true. It doesn’t mater what you infer from FOX, Us, CNN, NYTimes, or any other source, you made a statement that’s not true. we are talking about your actions and your actions only.
When i make a mistake I say I’m sorry. Lord knows I’ve retracted many papers, admitted I was wrong several times, and have had to correct my work after i have made it public. Owning up to a mistake is the mark of maturity and integrity. This is my third post about your statements and you still choose to call an inference you made fact. Whats worse is that you’ve done this on prior posts. How do you expect people to find you credible?
Let’s make the political personal for a moment. If i made accusations about you without any good sources how would you feel? Now look at the statement “I now must condemn the Obama campaign at least materially complicit, if not actually being behind these attacks…. while their proxies launch their nuclear missiles at the Palin family.” Doesn’t this statement fit the false accusation mold?
Anyways, this is going to be my last post about this. After three posts of asking you not to make up stories that you know are not true you’ve pretty much lost creditability with me.
Dj,
You may consider my evidence insufficient by your standards of evidence to support the inference I draw from them. Fair enough. However, you are not entitled to deny that I have presented evidence.
And you are certainly not entitled to mind-read and declare that I “make up stories that you know are not true” simply by closing your eyes and waving your hands in lieu of refuting my evidence. Not in good faith, anyway.
This is trolling.
