More on “Rumor Has It…Obama/Hillary Ticket Coming”
Posted by civil truth on September 22nd, 2008
Although the actual source of the e-mail that Raven referenced earlier today appears to still be unidentified, I’ve been following this story for about ten days, ever since I first encountered reports of a possible replacement of Biden with Hillary started coming out. I had been reluctant to promote this without a second source. However, since Raven has raised the issue, let me fill in some details.
Let me introduce you to Stephen A. Maloney, who posts at a number of blogs (including his named blog SteveMaloneyGOP).
The main blog he posts at is Campaign2008VictoryA blog
His initial posts on the prospect of replacing Biden with Hillary, as far as I can tell, was on September 12th, in this post titled Obama Naming Hillary V-P Candidate , which is where I first came across these rumors.
Key quotes:
We have received information from sources high in the Democratic Party that, in a cynical, desperation move, Hillary Rodham Clinton will replace the hapless Joe Biden as V-P candidate on the Obama ticket. . . This is the site that first broke the news that John McCain would name Sarah Palin as his running mate.
I feel as good about this story as I did about the Palin choice story two weeks ago. I will not name the people (three in recent days) who told me this is going to happen. I trust them all, and Democratic Party logic indicates that group will stoop to any lengths to try to win this race…Right about now, with the Obama Campaign falling like a boulder from the sky, Hillary can get (promises! promises!) just about anything.
Okay, on Biden: the one straw that broke “Joe Camel’s” back was the fact that the Palin Effect is going to cost the Democrats many seats in the Congress. The Rassmussen Poll shows that the huge “generic Democrat” lead nationally in congressional races has disappeared. I believe this has been noted (and how!) by the Democrats now likely to lose their seats.
I also believe the “transfer” of V-P roles probably COULD take place as early as Monday, although it could occur somewhat later…Yes, Hillary Clinton can endorse Obama, the man who labeled her a warmonger, a liar, and a racist. She can endorse the politician whom her husband claimed “played the race card” against him.
Hey, friends this is today’s “Obama Democrats.” Nothing lost save honor and integrity.
Steve has posted several updated reports since then. The e-mail that Raven wrote about must have started circulating around this time, because Stephen in a post on the 14th (Hillary, Biden VP Switch Imminent) quotes the same e-mail, identifying it as coming from “Carolyn, an activist for soldiers and military families”. He also revised his prediction from “Monday” (Sept 15th) to Oct 5th.
Steven continues to stand by this story, with some caveats. In his most recent update yesterday titled Biden Bye-Bye, Hillary Hello?, he leads off as follows:
In his piece linked below, Pittsburgh columnist Jack Kelly cites me (correctly) as one of the sources on the movement to dump Joe Biden and replace him with Hillary Clinton. I stand by the story, although it becomes more difficult for Obama to act as the story gains greater publicity.
Only time will tell whether this comes to pass. I think Steve is correct that the more exposure in advance that this story gets, the lower the probability it will happen. As least the surprise element is pretty much gone by now. When Hillary sees the reaction this trial balloon is getting, and also see how Obama’s campaign is going and what he reveals about himself in the days to come, she may well get cold feet.
One thing we can be sure: if Hillary does come in, it will be because she judges that it is in her best political self-interest and not because she has any love for Obama (or for the DNC leadership who stabbed her in the back in the primaries). And if she does come in, it may well be not because she thinks she can rescue Obama’s campaign, but rather it will represent an effort for her to salvage Congressional races for the Democrats, which will gain here chits from these elected officials for her run in 2012.

I’ve been following this item as well, and like you … I believe the likelihood is remote … and for the same reasons. I would only add that should Hillary be elevated to only one heartbeat away from the presidency, Obama’s life insurance carrier would probably cancel his policy.

OH! And thank you CT for digging into this deeper; the reason I posted this was to bring it up more- to give it some attention and perhaps any thoughts of this arrangement by Obama might be culled at the attention. Or at least wishful thinking on my part…a lot is at stake and we should not put anything past Obama. Or Hillary.

Now that was just funny! :ptbaa:

So, will it be “Bye-bye Biden”?…
I’m sure a lot of you folks will already have seen or heard of the e-mail speculating on Biden’s bowing out as the Democratic nominee for VP: On or about, October 5th, Biden will excuse himself from the ticket, citing health problems, and he will be …

Obama and Joe’s honeymoon is beginning to end.

If I were to put on a tinfoil hat, I’d say that Obama is trying to abuse Biden enough to either make him want to leave or to establish grounds for “divorce”.
(Sort of a variant on the old expression “just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean that someone isn’t out to get you”.)
On the other hand, Hillary and more recently Bill have by their words and actions (mostly) been trying to signal the Obama campaign to change their direction from personal attacks to highlighting differences on the issues. Bill’s most recent comments regarding Sarah Palin are a case in point.
To date, though, their signalling has been mostly ignored. This make me wonder why they would want to get aboard the Obama
ExpressLocaltrain wreck in progress. Thus, I’m still equivocal as to whether the Clinton rescue mission will actually be launched. Especially since their decision process will be so tied in with their psychopathogy, which (thankfully) I’m not able to grok.
