Duncan, I see that by, uh, posting a pic of a, um, scantilly-clad, er, girl, you’ve enabled yourself to speak in the Obama dialect.

Uh, um, oh yeah…I like my lingerie better. It’s simple. No fuss. No frills. Easy on. Easy off.

Raven definitely get my, er .. uh .. um, (whew, it’s hot in here) … vote.

This photo evokes no incoherence from me…indeed this wonderbra model is a real turn-off. I suspect it has to do with the make-up, the airbrushing of her body to remove all hair and hint of imperfection, the vacuous expression on her face, and her averted eyes.
Raven, au contraire, wins hands
downoff. :grin:September 23rd, 2008 at 9:10 pm
LOL CT!!!
My first thought when I saw the picture was- she’s anorexic. And I stand by that. Either that or they airbrushed her so much she looks it. Telltale: A visible lymph node under her arm and the very skinny arms.
I’ve posted here several times on the skinny models. One, Ana, was a beautiful young girl with a promising future…she was popular, semi famous and would have been a top model had she not lost so much weight as demanded of her agent. She was 5′10″ and at death weighed 87 lbs. A week prior to her death, she was in a photo shoot and when those pictures were published, everyone commented about how “good” she looked; how “healthy” and “in shape” her body was…she weighed 90 lbs then. After she died people began questioning their own ideas of sexy and healthy vs. phoney and unreal.
By current standards, I am FAT. I am 5 feet tall even and weigh 100- 105 lbs depending upon what time of the month it is. My stats are 24 waist, 36 bust and 24 hips/Size 3 or 4…even with not an ounce of actual body fat on me, I would be called OBESE by the fashion industry as well as the Hollywood crowd.
I do hope she has been airbrushed and isn’t really THAT skinny…look at the ribs too- another sign of a big problem. I think she’s pretty- in a fake or phoney sense. She doesn’t look real to me- she looks like a doll or something. It appears as though they are trying to reproduce the look of the 50’s (?) with the hairdo and all…but back then the models (marilyn monroe) were size 10s and weighed 130 lbs and were drooled over. Not now. Anything over 100lbs is considered gross, fat and ugly.

Raven, looking at the model photo again, I agree on the anorexia. Not my idea of attractiveness (and as you’ve pleaded on other posts – very dangerous to health and emotional well-being).
But what still strikes me is how the photo makes me feel like I’m viewing an object crafted by others rather than a real person. That is, the manipulation going on has the perverse consequence of destroying rather than creating attractiveness.
An even greater tragedy if, as you observe, this is an industry-wide practice.

Heck, I didn’t even realize the model had dark hair!

“Back then”? That’s Dita Von Teese from 1 month ago. And yes, she is skinny, but I think the pic makes it appear more so than she really is.

Raven, my apologies. Rereading it becomes obvious your talking bout “back then” as in re-creating the look as opposed to the model herself.
