This is parody, but the spirit being mocked is very real and very evil

Glenn Beck has composed this new National Anthem for an Obama presidency.

(lyrics)
All hail the Messiah,
Obama, Obama,
The path to the new Socialist Motherland,
Our Savior, our Savior,
Obama, Obama,
The leader more famous than Lindsay Lohan.
Bow down and praise the One;
Give him your money and your guns;
Give us a country
That makes your wife proud;
Lord Barry, heal the bitter ones,
White and clinging to faith and to guns,
Hope for the change of the hope of the change!

Glenn really does an outstanding effort here with his allusions, though I think the following would make a better sixth line: The leader more famous than Jesus Himself; and the twelth line would scan better if modified to White and clinging to their faith and guns.

But it’s all too easy to laugh and go on, not recognizing how close this historic evil that is being ridiculed here (Cult of Personality) is to resurrection, with the associated horrors that we have seen with past utopias that soon degenerate into tyranny.

In case you don’t recognize the music, this was the anthem of the Soviet Union, which ominously Russia has adopted for its national anthem.

The Soviet anthem actually had two versions (and Russia has changed the text to a more nationalistic version). For those interested, here is the link to the text of both Soviet versions, in Russian and in English.

Glenn’s parody comes closer to the spirit of the first (1944) version, which contains specific praise to Lenin and Stalin. (The 1977 version removed the reference to Stalin). In either case, if you go search YouTube for performances of the Soviet Anthem and review Red Square parades in which the massed soldiers sing the anthem, it will remind you of the face of evil (as exemplified in Communism) and help you feel the seductive power of this evil that put our nation in such great peril – an evil that cost much blood and treasure to subdue. Follow links to Red Square 1945; RedSquare 1984 Paul Robeson English recording with Stalin clips

(Or help you understand if you are too young to remember the USSR in the height of its power.)

The composer certainly knew how to compose a very stirring anthem.

It’s also clear from these videos and other like them that there are quite a few who await the rise again of the Soviet Union.

If you want even more frightening, compare with today’s Russia, Red Square 2007. (This YouTube page also contains the lyrics, which are interesting to compare how closely they track with the Soviet lyrics.)

But hell, if the Soviet anthem was good enough for Russia, why not adapt it again for the America’s New Deal socialist utopia under our Great Leader Barack. I mean, how can an English drinking song and remembrance of our heroic fighting efforts to create an enduring freedom for the ages compete with the One?

A great evil has been loosed again upon the earth…Lord spare us and our nation.

    Great parody, and sadly very true to how people view the man. Ugh.

    He has his own Presidential Seal fer cryin’ out loud, of course he needs his own anthem as well.

    What scares me is the amount of people who don’t see his Marxist leanings, or they just don’t care. Ayers and Dohrn, and the hundreds of thousands like them have done an EXCELLENT, bang up job of educating the American populace that security comes from Big Brother, not from your self-reliance. Liberty and freedom are dangerous.

  3. Raven Says:

    Liberty and freedom are no longer American values. The left has done a good job
    at making sure people don’t want them. Or need them. Or deserve them.

    For some reason this all reminds me of a Star Trek episode; where Captain Kirk talks about the history of the Star Fleet and it’s mission, where he mentions by name all the universes’ and Earth’s evil leaders…Hitler, Stalin, and the fictional names of ST history…Obama’s name would fit right in there nicely.

    And he hasn’t even won this yet.

    The cartoon pictures of Obama under the Soviet anthem, the caricature of the black boogieman… reminiscent of images from the KKK movie by D.W. Griffith called “Birth of a Nation” The exaggerated blackness of the face in contrast to the whiteness of the eyes, play right into the white man’s fear of the successful black man (ever wonder why they liked calling them boys in the old south). Race is the elephant in the room. You’ve gone through everything else: Muslim, socialist, inexperienced, terrorist connected, celebrity etc. I guess you don’t want to play the race card. It’s a no, no, But you figured out how to sneak in a effective subliminal message about the Manchurian candidate.

  5. Duncan Says:

    Karl,

    Sorry ’bout that. We forgot that any criticism of The One Who Would Spread The Wealth Around was ultimately racist in its origins. Thanks for reminding us. :roll:

  6. karl bjornsson Says:

    What wealth you talking about?
    I wasn’t speaking economics
    I was talking race

    karl,

    If you look on YouTube, you’ll find multiple video renditions of Glenn’s anthem, most of which I found heavy-handed and trying to be scary. I selected this version because a) it was Glenn’s official release, a b) I found this the least heavy-handed, in part because of the use of cartoons.

    In response to your assertions, I reviewed this video multiple times. It’s the old saying that you can find anything if you want to – but when I examine what’s there, and also what could have been done if someone really wanted to push a racist agenda, I honestly conclude that this does not cross the line or even come close.

    If anything, the blackness of Obama is downplayed; and the blackness of his associates and wife (:33-:36 & :49-:53) is also downplayed. Indeed, viewing his iconic image, you would be hard-pressed to identify his ethinicity if you already didn’t know it.

    The images that come closest to caricature would be 1:10-1:14 and possibly :37-:40. But even arguendo your assessment, eight seconds at most out of 1:24 hardly puts a racist stamp on this production – not to mention that it is his iconic image that occupies the last 10 seconds of the film, which is what the viewer will tend to take away. That’s not the image a competent racist would have chosen to end with.

    There’s nothing subliminal here about Obama being a Manchurian candidate – this video pounds this theme openly throughout the entire film that Obama is a throwback to the Soviet era – nothing subtle or devious there.

    Again, what’s being parodied is the cult of personality surrounding Obama’s campaign – and cult of personality was a dominant feature of Soviet society, as well as other Communist regimes past and present (think Mao, Che Guevara, Fidel Castro, North Korea). Hence the heavy Soviet iconography.

    When you hear hoofbeats, you should think horses, not zebras (or elephants). Go elephant hunting in a different room.
