Jen, I have seen people who truly have nothing...in the small towns and local cities here in NH believe it or not. I know more than a hand full of folks who don't own a computer or Playstation; who use an old fashioned phone and who wouldn't dream of Internet connections. They live fine- sure, they are "poor" by many's standards. But they don't demand a penny from the government, they aren't on welfare rolls and they work, hard. These people deserve respect. Not the liberal whiney asses who have it all but wan't even more, free of cost to themselves but high in costs from all working folk.

Socialism and capitalism are like night and day. Socialism is the dark end of day though...and every nation that has ever been so has fallen down.

I fear and pretty much know and accept that the US is heading in that direction, esp under the so called leadership of Obama. He will destroy the will and independence of so many Americans.

I have little sympathy for the "poor" of America. I taught in a school where 90% of the kids got free and reduced lunches and most of these kids were considered "poor" by government standards. Yet - many of these kids had a new Playstation game system, tons of games for it, a nice TV with cable, their parents had cell phones and they wore expensive Nike's. This isn't poor - if you want to see poor look at some of these 3rd world countries. Our "poor" should be grateful for all they have and I am tired of hearing politicians whine about how we need to redistribute the wealth so that these poor people can have another gaming system.

Real wages have not been declining in America. It's an ignorant myth that the excellent Thomas Sowell, among others, have debunked. "Cost of living" rates are determined by an arbitrary and changing list of things. They do not include new technologies that come down in price over time until they go from luxury to ultra-commonplace items, but they do keep items in the list as they increase in price. Thus there's an inflationary bias to begin with, and that's even assuming their methods of items to include is even reliable.

And I would like to see some serious statistics on that 600 gain/loss number. Wealth is not and never has been a zero-sum game. A smaller share of a growing pie can still be larger.
