And the sun sets on the American Republic….

Posted by Duncan on November 4th, 2008

The sun sets on the American Republic. Melodramatic? Possibly? However, after listening to the Democrat-Socialists practically salivating at taking complete and unfettered power over the Executive and Legislative branches of the Federal government, I believe that it is a fair analogy. (It seems our only hope will be the possibility of a filibuster in the Senate, but my faith in that parliamentary manuever as the stop-gap to Democrat-Socialist ram-rodding is lacking.) Liberty and Freedom will be replaced with Security and Welfare™ (aka Hope and Change™). The pursuit of happiness? Well, not for long you see, because if you ever attain your happiness, the Democrat-Socialists will come and make sure you share it with those who have yet to attain theirs. Its only fair they say. Change is indeed coming, President Obama, Speaker Pelosi and Senate Leader Reid will make sure of that. The left has always lamented the American hegemony, saying that we’re too powerful and too prosperous. Well, once they’re done with us, they won’t have those two problems to contend with anymore.

No, I’m not going to cut and run, claim to move to Canada or away. I believe that this country is worth fighting for. That the promise that our founders gave us in 1776 will not die without a fight. There is indeed hope that in 2010 we can take back Congress and elect those who would govern responsibly. All I know is, to paraphrase Malcom Reynolds,

“I might have been on the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.”

We can hope that Bernadine Dorn’s unwillingness to don a burqua produces enough infighting between the factions that put Obama in power to keep either camp for accomplishing the goal of destroying the United States.

  2. dj Says:

    OOOOOOOBBBBBBAAAAAMMMMMMAAAAAA!!!!

  3. Christina Says:

dj, don’t you mean, “Ayresssss!” Because that’s who’s pulling the strings on this particular puppet.

  4. Duncan Says:

Yeah, the American Republic lasted a good 233 years, about 33 years longer than the average, apparently. Oh well, it was a good run, eh comrades?

  5. Fred Says:

I have two Republican neighbors. One takes social security and works off the books so that he doesn’t have to pay taxes. The other owns 150 acres and makes $200k a year, but he cheats on his taxes, faking selling farm products so he can get farm tax breaks, and writing off personal parties as business expenses.

Both are crying this morning that the welfare state is going to take over.

    Grow up.

  6. Bigfoot Says:

Fred, when it comes to the welfare state taking over, your neighbors are several decades late. Other than the reforms signed by President Clinton, the welfare state has grown steadily since its inception.

  7. Duncan Says:

    Fred,

So what you are telling me is that our tax system is so screwed up, people are able to dodge paying taxes, and in fact TRY to get out of paying taxes? NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Say it aint SO! And you think it is going to get any better under Obama? And don’t even GET me started on that argument. As if your anecdotal Republicans have the monopoly on sheltering their wealth to avoid paying taxes…

And grow up? My friend, you need to “grow up”. You can gloat all you like. Feel free to actually. I have no confidence in Obama’s plans, and, unfortunately, we’ll all be eating crow, probably quite literally, if he gets his way. And you can take ownership of the situation…

  8. Fred Says:

Yo Duncan, what I’m telling you is that Republicans are quick to call Democrats welfare lovers, when they hypocritically take their own welfare, while telling themselves it’s not the same thing. “sheltering their wealth” huh? It’s welfare, it’s cheating, it’s ripping off the system and other taxpayers. These same people were cheerleaders for going into Iraq but don’t want to pay for it.
How exactly do you think the Bush deficit and the war should be paid for?
Do you think our children should pay for these decisions?

  9. Raven Says:

Fred, war is a national effort. Supported or not. So yes, we should expect to pay for it. And yes, we can expect our kids to do it as well. Whether we like it or not.

Are we still paying for Vietnam? The war of my childhood time; a war I have no memory of?

On the same note, earned income tax evasion is wrong. It’s illegal and unethical and totally against what most people believe in. You can bet your ass there are as many Democrats who are wealthy who do the same damn thing. I know a few. And I’ve reported them to the IRS- along with my GOP evaders as well. Money rises about politics. Remember that.

It’s far different to compare people who DON’T WORK, WHO ARE USING and ABUSING the system, who GET A TAX refund every yr, who use the welfare benefits, to TAX EVADERS. At least the latter worked for the money. And, no one supports welfaring the well to do, but liberals support supporting those who do nothing.
