Prosecuting Bush officials is necessary? No, says Obama

Posted by Raven on November 18th, 2008

I wonder what the leftards think of this (bit of unassuming, non headline news):

WASHINGTON – Barack Obama’s incoming administration is unlikely to bring criminal charges against government officials who authorized or engaged in harsh interrogations of suspected terrorists during the George W. Bush presidency. Obama, who has criticized the use of torture, is being urged by some constitutional scholars and human rights groups to investigate possible war crimes by the Bush administration.

democrats and the hard left hate and demonize their fellow armercans as a way to legitimatize themselves, this will be upsetting to many of them.  Anyway Obama and the Dems in power understand how easily they could end up in the dock for their own behavior.  The war crimes rhetoric is typical despicable left wing behavior.

This is excellent news, though. One of the worrying things about the Obama campaign is that they’d been promising to jail opposition leaders upon taking control.

Though, of course, it might just be a matter of lulling us into a sense of security before he drops the blade on the rest of us.

March for Life this year might be the last. It’ll be too soon after the inauguration for him to just go suddenly rounding up dissidents. After all, we’ve been rallying for 35 years and have proved harmless enough. But later, after he’s had a chance to let the promised “manufactured crisis” play out and give him a chance to institute martial law, the next batch of prolifers who even have the capacity to rally will probably be summarily arrested for challenging the regime.

Look at the bright side. A lot of us may get a chance to learn how much we’re really willing to suffer for our faith.

Gitmo will soon become Obama’s responsibility.  It will be interesting to see what he does with it.  If he keeps Gitmo open and operational, he will be breaking one of his earlier promises, but he will be facing the reality the detainees there are bigoted monsters who would kill as many Americans as possible just for not being muslim.  It will not be the first time that an incoming president is mugged by reality, or adopted a Bush policy that he had criticized as a candidate.  I remember how Bill Clinton faulted George HW’s policy of turning away Haitan boat people, only to continue it after taking office.

I bet some folks like at the DU, Kos, etc, are going freakin ballistic over this. Not that they don’t go freaking ballistic over virtually everything, but, I’d say this should be an 8 on the Andrew Sullivan Freakout Scale.

It’s a java script for comments. So far, so good. We also got a Multi-author notification plugin as well, which lets all of us know when a comment is made, vs just the author.
