Errrk.. Arrggh… Eeeek!

Yep. I knew that #2 Tech couldn’t “seal the deal” and play for the BCS National Championship. They came out and completely fell apart after their first series didn’t result in an immediate touchdown like they’re used to doing. It was like #5 Oklahoma had a player in the offensive huddle. And OU’s defense actually tackled. Mike Leach should have his defense watch the game footage.. of the TT offense, so they can watch OU’s defense actually stopping an offense. I knew it. 65-21 was the score if you care.

(Full Disclosure: Yes, I went to Texas A&M. And yes, I know our team is at the bottom of the Big 12 South. And yes, we lost to both Texas Tech and OU, quite soundly if I remember correctly. Yes, my team is in the lowest pits of football hell. Well, Tech just joined us there as they watched their one chance to go to the “big dance” get swept away almost effortlessly. Schadenfreude, I think is the term.)

I stay away from all topics related to:::FOOTBALL.

Nope, football doesn’t raise my pulse, I’m afraid. Nor basketball. But I don’t begrudge others who have an investment (of the fan variety, not financial).

If the current economy brings reality to pro salaries and college athletic budgets, we’ll all be better for it (and perhaps even afford tickets every now and again).

I love college football. The trouble is, if your team is in the Bowl Subdivision (formerly known as 1-A) and even moderately successful, tickets to home games come at a premium. If you want season tickets, you need to donate to the athletic fund to even get a place in line. As a result, I get to watch my Hokies one game each year if I’m lucky. Sometimes, I can get a ticket to a road game. (One brother lives in NC, pretty close to 4 conference opponents.) The few times I’ve gone to a home game have resulted from someone else not being able to go, and his/her ticket suddenly becoming available. On the other hand, just yesterday, I went to see a women’s basketball game, in which my Hokies beat George Mason. Ticket price: $5.

College football game tickets for non-students are approaching ludicrous levels, ofcourse to pay for ever growing stadiums and facilities. I’d rather watch the games from my house than pay what is required nowadays. Oh, and I refuse to pay for pro-football tickets, those are outright highway robbery…
