Sunday AM News & Links

First off, some Barry Obama Notes:

:redstar: Respect for Barry? Hmm. Thank the liberals who gave us such shining examples of Presidential Respect over the past 8 yrs. I chose NOT to give Barry one ounce of my precious respect- he hasn’t earned it…and yeah- what goes around comes around. Dissent is patriotic, right?

:redstar: On the other hand, er, other side of the aisle, patriotism is popular BECAUSE of Barry:

After generations of finding their voice in dissidence, some on America’s left wing are adjusting not only to a new, postelection comfort with patriotic symbols, but the political reality they represent. Believing in Obama after inauguration day will mean identifying with the machinery of American power.

:redstar: The leftard media is BEGGING Barry to lower the bar. Cause they know he can’t produce. They see him as the trainwreck is really is…

No one has come to Washington draped in loftier expectations—or facing a more challenging and ever-growing to-do list. Obama and his aides are determined to send a jolt of electricity through the city, but the realities get more immobilizing by the minute.

:redstar: One of the big reasons I cannot ever respect this duffus about to move into the White House is this:

CHICAGO — President-elect Barack Obama and Congressional Democrats are considering major expansions of government-assisted health care insurance and unemployment compensation as they begin intensive work this week on a two-year economic recovery package.
[...]
Other policy changes would subsidize employers’ expenses for temporarily continuing health insurance coverage to laid-off and retired workers and their dependents, as mandated under a 22-year-old federal law known as Cobra, and allow workers who lose jobs that did not come with insurance benefits to be eligible, for the first time, to apply for Medicaid coverage.

On to other news:
:redstar: Oregon: Taxing the miles driven?

With the help of a six-year, $2.1 million federal grant, Oregon Gov. Ted Kulongoski is moving forward with a proposal to tax Oregon drivers for the miles they drive. “As Oregonians drive less and demand more fuel-efficient vehicles, it is increasingly important that the state find a new way, other than the gas tax, to finance our transportation system,” Kulongoski told the Albany Democrat Herald.

:redstar: Paris is burning again. Wha? Do these “youths” have jobs or what??

:redstar: Ogre has the terrible scoop on our government over-stepping it’s bounds, and I suspect we’ll see more of this in the coming years. A revolution might happen in my lifetime afterall.

:redstar: GLAD targets New England. Oh yay. What’s to become of my quaint and quiet and safe little haven I’ve always bragged about??

:redstar: Over at Maggie’s- a series of videos about Caucasian rugs. I don’t have one, but one of my most cherished possessions is a Mashad Persian rug, hand woven of wool and silk…two generations ago and it’s still as beautiful as when it was new.

  1. Bigfoot Says:

The Caucasian rugs remind me of Turkish rugs I saw on a Mediterranean cruise in 2006, in the port of Kusadasi. My tour that day included a visit to a rug and carpet store, of all things, after our main destination of Ephesus. We were treated to a presentation that looks like this one (found by Googleing “Kusadasi” and “rug”).

  2. Raven Says:

Yeah I’ve seen old rugs like that..they have shows down in Boston. Those are the types of rugs one doesn’t step on…useless really. Who wants a carpet that is so old and fragile it cannot be laid out? Mt carpet is about 70 yrs old- it’s so big I don’t have a room large enough for it right now. So it’s rolled up and in storage.
