The Obama Bowl

Posted by Raven on January 17th, 2009

He really likes himself. The Coronation of teh Anointed One is becoming amusing, to say the least. Most people will be working next Tuesday and won’t be at all interested in watching ceremonies and dances.

It’s not the Super Bowl….yet-

Barack Obama’s inaugural organizing committee has struck deals with three television networks to the tune of more than $5 million, giving the networks exclusive access to inaugural events. But the arrangement is prompting questions about the president-elect’s efforts to raise money by turning his inauguration into made-for-TV productions.

Like I said, Bambi likes himself. A lot.

For $2.5 million, HBO purchased the rights to air Sunday’s all-star kickoff concert at the Lincoln Memorial, which Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden will attend. The concert, featuring the musical stylings of Beyoncé, U2, Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder, among others, will be available on television only to those who receive HBO and to households that receive digital cable.

What a bargain.

Walt Disney Co. has paid $2 million to the committee for two programs that will air on its Disney Channel and on its ABC network. The Disney Channel will televise a children’s concert Monday night at Verizon Center. Hosted by Michelle Obama and Jill Biden, the event will feature singers Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovoto, all of whom are Disney Channel stars.

Bambi is denying access to this ball- cause not everyone has Disney TV. Thank Gawd.

ABC will carry the “Neighborhood Inaugural Ball,” the first of 10 official balls, next Tuesday. The highlight of the program at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center is likely to be Obama’s first official speech of the evening and the Obamas’ first dance as president and first lady. The ABC program will carry commercial breaks, meaning the network may be able to turn a profit on the event.

Yay…capitalism at work!! I wouldn’t be shocked to learn Bambi forbids this. Wait a moment…didn’t Disney have a movie called Bambi??

MTV, which is owned by Viacom, has paid $650,000 for rights to broadcast the Tuesday night “Youth Ball,” which Obama will attend.

Ahh yes…MTV, that wonderful channel that is so educational and valuable. Good choice Bamb. We see where you’re morals really are.

error

The TV contracts, however, have prompted questions about the committee’s efforts to raise funds by turning inaugural events into TV productions that benefit a single entertainment concern, rather than pooling the footage so that it is widely available to all.

“I’m extremely disturbed by it,” said Jeffrey Chester, executive director of the Center for Digital Democracy, a Washington group that promotes media-ownership diversity. “The Lincoln Memorial has such significance, and to not make [the concert] available to the entire country just seems elitist.”

Well, sir, Bambi does like himself. A whole lot. And he is a snotty snob. This is very much in line with his personality. In fact it represents it.

So it’s not the Super Bowl. It’s the Obama Bowl, and only those with certain paid cable programming will be able to watch all the events. My TV won’t be turned on; nor the radio. It’s Black Tuesday for me and I won’t be in any mood to celebrate. Nope. Bambi ain’t my President. I will be mourning for my country, which starting Tuesday, will forever change for the worst.

And to think, some Dems faulted Bush four years ago for the expense of that inauguration.

  2. Duncan Says:

Yeah, well, that was for Bush, the man who stole the election from Gore and started an illegal war for oil. Now we have The One™ who brings Hope and Change™ to the needy masses. This is more of a celebration than an inauguration, dontchaknow? In that sense, spending all of this money during a REAL economic downturn is completely justified. Bread and circuses people. Bread and Circuses

  3. Jennifer Says:

First, Duncan I am just laughing that your trademarked “The One” and “Hope and Change”! Hilarious….

Secondly, there is no WAY we will watch this ridiculous show AKA the inaugaration. No Disney Channel for us this weekend – although we pretty much keep it off now anyway. I need to make sure my kids aren’t watching it at school because if so, they are NOT going to school on Tues.

I was just scanning all the headlines and it’s all about Obambi and his coronation; the train ride from history; blah-dee-blah. The media is in his pants. And I don’t think it’s because they love him, so much as they love the idea Bush is leaving and ANYONE is better. It’s a sad day, really, when this is all the matters.
