Hugo Chavez now “allowed unlimited terms” Dictator for Life..

CARACAS, Venezuela — Venezuela’s elections chief says President Hugo Chavez has won a referendum to eliminate term limits, paving the way for him to run again in 2012.

National Electoral Council chief Tibisay Lucena says with 94 percent of the vote counted, 54 percent have backed the president’s proposal. That trend is irreversible.

Firecrackers exploded as pro-Chavez caravans circled the city with horns blaring after the announcement Sunday night. Chavez appeared on the balcony of his presidential palace to sing the national anthem.

Well, that pretty much puts the socialist nail in the coffin of the Venezuelans. But here is something that caught my eye in this story. Something that is eerily similar in the tactics used by our own socialists Democrats here in the States.

People who voted “yes” said Chavez has given poor Venezuelans cheap food, free education and quality health care, and empowered them with a discourse of class struggle after decades of U.S.-backed governments that favored the rich. No successor has emerged, and voters said they worry their gains will vanish if Chavez leaves office.

I remember something that was written by someone, usually attributed to Tytler. Yes, I’ve posted it before, but I think it bears repeating:

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years.

Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage.

Emphasis mine.

Yet there it is from the very words of the people voting yes. They’re voting for the guy that is going to give ‘em stuff. And we have the same attitude here in America now, atleast with a large portion of the voting bloc. But still, its the same poison taking place in two different locations.

And if you think I am exaggerating and that it could never happen here… well.. remember this lady:

And with the Dems tryin’ to grab as much power as they can, don’t be surprised to see them pandering to even more people, trying to get as many people under the entitlement umbrella as possible. See, like a drug dealer, just give ‘em a little taste of the goods, and watch come back for more….

The Venezuelans can run to the U.S. to escape the “socialist revolution” being jammed down their throats, where can we run?

    UUGH.

I hope it’s not too late for America. I worry that it is though…this stupid stimulus package of crap has many people believing they will always be taken care of. No matter how lazy they get.

The stuff that will truly turn the tide, I think, in the US will be universal health care and labor laws designed to “protect” worker rights. If the Dems can get these two items under their control, we will become a one party-for-decades nation.

Venezuela doesn’t have to reelect Chavez just because he’s on the ballot. On the other hand, Chavez may have amassed enough weapons (both figuratively and literally) to rig future elections as needed. We’ll have to see, but don’t give up on the Venezuelan people quite yet.

In the U.S., we’ll just have to keep vigilant in case something wicked this ways comes.
