As a matter of fact, DJ, I am fully aware that OPEC is a cartel. Not only that, it was formed with the encouragement and direction of a United States Secretary of State who just happened to believe in a one-world government, etc., and that it would be a wonderful way for the United States to see other countries as "partners" who count, not suppliers of a need.

And where do you get the idea I thought we could "take our money elsewhere"? My driving point was that as long as we are dependent upon foreign oil we will be subject to their every beck and call, and there is no factual reason it should be that way. The United States, considering both off-shore and on-shore reserves, could pretty much put OPEC out of business for several decades, if only human life were more important than envirowhacko socialist agenda.

Until I see some factual information otherwise, that's the way it is, and our esteemed leaders (executive, judicial and legislative) are so intent upon screwing us they couldn't care less that our country is going to Hell in a handbasket as long as they get theirs.

Does Carlos know that OPEC is not a store? Its a cartel, not CVS. The whole purpose of OPEC is to regulate oil prices through adjusting the worlds supply. But just for fun lets picture OPEC running shop like CVS. How effective do you think the "I'm-taken-my-money-elsewhere" strategy is going to be? Do you really think the U.S can go one day with out using oil? Ignoring oil that is used for transportation, think of the drugs, plastics, and electricity that would stop being produced. If oil shipments stopped flowing, millions of Americans would die in less then a month. The leaders of OPEC know this and work it to their advantage.

Good argument, Apple. I'm sure OPEC would be pleased as punch to lose the U.S. as a paying customer because our vaunted and highly respected leaders finally figured out we're paying terrorists through the back door. I'm also real sure OPEC would keep their prices just as high as they are right now, too, and that none of the participating countries (like Venezuela and Saudi Arabia) would go (economically) into the toilet they so richly deserve.

Oil is sold on the global market. Any gains from offshore drilling would be off set by OPEC lowering their output.

Of course the Obama administration is going to keep the laws on wire tapping?! Any leader would, regardless of their party affiliation. This is why it’s important to prevent governments from infringing on the public's privacy from the get-go.

Happy tea-bag'n on the 15th
