Cardozo was of Portuguese descent, not Hispanic.

Apparently, being of Portuguese descent is not being Hispanic, even though Portugal is on the same peninsula as Spain. It is the break down that the U.S. Census Bureau uses. So technically, she’d be the first Hispanic, which in the world of Identity Politics, is huge in trying to gain favor with a certain group of voters. Didn’t really work for the Republicans with Colin Powell, Clarence Thomas or Attorny General Gonzales… but hey…
