Get ready to get taxed out the wazoo…

And by national sales tax, I don’t mean the “Fair Tax”, but a Value-Added Tax ON TOP of all of the other taxes we already enjoy. Somebody has got to pay for the Rainbow Farting Unicorns™ and Angelic Choirs Singing The One’s Praises™…
At a White House conference earlier this year on the government’s budget problems, a roomful of tax experts pleaded with Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner to consider a VAT. A recent flurry of books and papers on the subject is attracting genuine, if furtive, interest in Congress. And last month, after wrestling with the White House over the massive deficits projected under Obama’s policies, the chairman of the Senate Budget Committee declared that a VAT should be part of the debate.
“There is a growing awareness of the need for fundamental tax reform,” Sen. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) said in an interview. “I think a VAT and a high-end income tax have got to be on the table.”
A VAT is a tax on the transfer of goods and services that ultimately is borne by the consumer. Highly visible, it would increase the cost of just about everything, from a carton of eggs to a visit with a lawyer. It is also hugely regressive, falling heavily on the poor. But VAT advocates say those negatives could be offset by using the proceeds to pay for health care for every American — a tangible benefit that would be highly valuable to low-income families.
Liberals dispute that notion. “You could pay for it regressively and have people at the bottom come out better off — maybe. Or you could pay for it progressively and they’d come out a lot better off,” said Bob McIntyre, director of the nonprofit Citizens for Tax Justice, which has a health financing plan that targets corporations and the rich.
(Emphasis Mine)
And remember, this is on top of all of the other taxes you get to pay. Whereas the Fair Tax would REPLACE our current “tax everything that makes money” system. Ofcourse, the Fair Tax would not allow the Federal Government to continue to grow into the Nanny State that our betters at the Versailles on the Potomac have wet dreams about… Sure Obama is projecting deficit spending for as far as the eye can see…. at our current rate of taxation. But, just like California politicians, our elected “representatives” in Washington D.C. can’t fathom actually CUTTING non-Constitutionally mandated programs (welfare programs, studies on pig flatulence affecting the north eastern buttwidget, a bridge to nowhere, etc.) in order to balance the budget. Oh no! Just raise the taxes!!!
Seriously. Do these people not understand that they’re pushing a large portion of the non-sheeple population to the brink???

I read this and there was a section about those who earn under 100,000 would be exempt from paying federal income tax- or this is a part of the selling point for this system. NO.
Fair Tax is indeed FAIR and that is why democrats will never support it.
A VAT would cause me to go over the edge.

And if you believe that last comment of yours, Raven, you must also believe in the unicorns and angelics.
A half century ago a congressman from Oregon was pushing the idea of a VAT. It was a bad idea then, it’s a horrible idea now, and it will be a horrible idea anytime in the foreseeable future.

I’ve heard some say that Barry wants the US to be more like Europe. A VAT tax would certainly push us in that direction.

Carlos, I KNOW that this VAT would never result in NO income taxes. Are you kidding me? LOL?? Of course it would never work cause I believe the American people would KILL it, one way or another before it happened. A revolution of sorts.

As with all of their fairy tale goodies, the VAT would not only screw those who the donks verbally hold precious and protect, they don’t give a rat’s patootie about that because, in the overall scheme of things they will get their “universal” health care (that no one benefits from except the useless, unproductive bureaucrats hired to run the thing) so that the guvmint can kill babies and useless elders, and everyone else can wait until the next forever to see a doc about a problem that will kill them before the unconcerned guvmint doc can see them.
Hey. That’s the ticket! I just figured out that Zero’s “universal health care proposal is actually a population control program in disguise! Of course it is. We’re overpopulated now (in spite of the millions of square miles of open land available if some useless, overbearing petty bureaucrats could figure out it’s only good for human habitation), so this is how he’s planning his “ultimate solution” a la Germany.
Maybe we should start his population control program by having all guvmint employees be the first to participate in it! We’d sure get rid of a lot of useless deadwood that way.
