Scott Brown wins Senate race

Posted by Bigfoot on January 20th, 2010

In what might be the greatest upset victory since the New York Giants prevailed over the previously unbeaten New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, Massachusetts State Senator Scott Brown (R) has won the special election to replace the late Edward “Ted” Kennedy in the U.S. Senate, over Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley (D), by a margin of 52% to 47%. How big is Brown’s win? As Boston’s mayor explained to the Boston Herald:

“I never thought I’d see the day when a Republican replaces Ted Kennedy,” Mayor Thomas M. Menino told the Herald tonight. “I think Scott Brown caught the wave of anger that’s out there, and the wave of anti-Obama.”

Before his death last year from an aggressive form of brain cancer, Kennedy had held his Senate seat since 1962. The seat had also been occupied by his brother John F. Kennedy, before he became president. As Patricia Murphy reports in Politics Daily, Brown paid tribute to the man he will succeed.

Brown also spoke of Ted Kennedy, calling him “a tireless worker and a big-hearted public servant who, for most of his lifetime, was a force like no other in this state. There’s no replacing a man like that, but tonight I honor the memory and I pledge to be the very best, worthy successor to the late Sen. Kennedy.”

Upon being sworn into office, Brown will replace temporary Senator Paul Kirk, and serve the remainder of Kennedy’s term, facing re-election in 2012.

(Apologies to any New England sports fans who might not appreciate being reminded of the above-mentioned Super Bowl XLII. However, the losing candidate has given me a chance to be even-handed and remind New York sports fans of the 2004 American League Championship Series, won by the Boston Red Sox over the New York Yankees. The Sox benefitted from a gutsy performance by pitcher Curt Schilling. More recently, Schilling supported Brown’s Senate bid, resulting in Coakley calling him a “Yankees fan”, which might be just about the worst insult that can be inflicted on a resident of Massachusetts, not to mention an actual Red Sox player.)

When the comment was made by Coakley, I’m sure she wasn’t aware of Schilling’s contributions to Boston and the Red Sox.

I’m also just as sure she knows now.

She was a study in the arrogance of the elitists that have hijacked her party, led by Duh-1, who have absolutely no business believing themselves superior to anything higher than an amoeba, let alone believing they have any answers for the lives of real people.

If they want to know what real people need or want, let them individually spend a year or two each living in fear of layoffs, living from paycheck-to-paycheck, living in fear of sickness, and living and working with people with the same fears.

And after that, they may come to understand why we don’t trust the government, why we don’t think government has the answers to many (if any) problems (especially the ones created by them to begin with), and why we believe it’s OUR money and OUR lives, not their money and not their lab rats that they can willfully and negligently experiment with.

A 3rd party will not be prosperous. It never has been; read a history book. Dr. Utopia is systematically disassembling this country piece by piece and we’re out here suggesting songs to the dance orchestra? It is utterly, vitally important that tea partiers, level-headed conservatives, whatever we want to call ourselves, TAKE BACK the GOP.
