The Atlanta public transportation system, MARTA, has announced that the name of its “yellow line” train route will be changed to “gold line”, due to complaints from the city’s Asian community. From FoxNews:
The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority issued a statement Thursday afternoon announcing it would change the name of the line to the “gold line.”
“The expressed concerns regarding the use of the phrase ‘yellow line’ will be addressed in the most expeditious and cost-effective manner possible,” MARTA officials said in the statement.
Ever since the early 1980′s, the Washington DC metro has had a “yellow line”, its five rail lines each being named for a color. In all the time I’ve lived in the area, in either Virginia or Maryland, I have never heard of Asians objecting to the name of Metro’s “yellow line”. Or Native Americans objecting to the name “red line”, for that matter.
Will we also get to see “gold cards” in soccer, a military or civil defense “gold alert”, or a “gold-bellied sapsucker”?

Of course, that’s better than the un-official Atlanta name for MARTA
