Pakistani officials: Adam Gadahn arrested (UPDATED)

Posted by Bigfoot on 7th March 2010

UPDATE by Duncan:

DANG IT TO HECK!!!

An “important Taliban militant” was arrested today in Pakistan. But that is where the confusion started.

Earlier it was reported by Pakistani media that intelligence agents had arrested Adam Gadahn, the American-born spokesman for al Qaeda, in an operation in the southern city of Karachi.

It was further reported by the Associated Press and Reuters that Gadahn had been arrested, sourcing security officials.

CBS News was told by sources in the Pakistan government that it was Gadahn, even after U.S. officials refused to confirm it was the California native for whom a $1 million reward has been posted.

Now, CBS News’ Farhan Bokhari in Islamabad writes that earlier reports the detained individual was Gadahn proved false. According to a Pakistan security official who spoke with CBS News on condition of anonymity, the arrested individual is in fact “a Taliban militant leader who is known as Abu Yahya.”

As some over at Ace’s place said:

There’s been so many stops and starts with this guy, who knows. On the upside, if it’s not him that means he’s still available for a special Hellfire missile delivery via a Predator drone.

ORIGINAL POST BELOW:

Considering that accurate information from remote areas of Pakistan can be hard to come by, I’m not quite yet ready to celebrate, but if this turns out to be correct, it will certainly be an occasion for downing some adult beverages. And yes, I will give the Obama administration credit where it’s due, even if all they did was to get the Pakistani authorities to cooperate. From the NY Daily News:

Adam Gadahn, the treasonous Californian Al Qaeda leader who has long been on Washington’s Most Wanted list, was nabbed in Pakistan Sunday – a huge victory in the battle against the terror network.

After some confusion in the intial reports, the Associated Press quoted Pakistani officials confirming the arrest of Osama bin Laden’s mouthpiece.

Gadahn was born in Oregon to Jewish parents who had converted to Christianity. His father changed the family name from “Pearlman” to “Gadahn”. They would raise their son in California, before he converted to Islam and moved to Pakistan. He joined Al Qaeda in Afghanistan and would become one of their main propogandists, appearing in numerous videos under the name of “Azzam al-Amriki” (“Azzam the American”). He has been on the FBI’s list of Most Wanted Terrorists. In 2006, he became the first American to be charged with treason since World War II.

March Fo(u)rth!

Posted by Bigfoot on 4th March 2010

I once read about someone saying that her favorite day of the year was March 4th, because it’s a complete sentence. Technically, that’s not true, since the sentence is “March forth!” and the date is “March fourth”. But for what it’s worth, they sound the same. In history, March fourth was America’s original Inauguration Day, before being changed by the 20th Amendment, and was the birthday of Venetian composer Antonio Vivaldi. So without further ado, I give you the news on or around March fourth.

Florida ACORN workers charged with voter fraud

Posted by Bigfoot on 9th September 2009

Arrest warrants have been issued for 11 workers hired by ACORN, for voter registration fraud in Homestead, Florida. According to Florida state attorney Katherine Fernandez-Rundle,

11 workers hired to register voters by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now — or ACORN — submitted 888 fraudulent names. She said the names included people who were already registered voters, fictitious names, and the name of the late actor Paul Newman, who died in Sept. 2008.

Voting while dead – it’s not just for Chicago anymore. I wonder if Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett and Ted Kennedy (who would probably love the irony) will show up.

To their credit, or maybe to throw a few people under the bus, ACORN itself alerted the authorities.

Fernandez-Rundle said ACORN alerted her office after it reviewed hundreds of voter registration cards it suspected were fraudulent. She said that none of the names in question actually voted.

The workers each face from 2 to 37 charges of “false swearing in connection with voting or elections” and “submission of false voter registration information.”

Be afraid, be very afraid…

Posted by Bigfoot on 30th August 2009

…if more of this sort of thing happens. If a cop making up law as he goes along isn’t scary, I don’t know what is. (via HotAir)

I wonder, if this protestor needs help defending his right to free speech, will the ACLU come to his aid? Or are they still busy taking photos of CIA agents and showing them to suspected Al Qaeda operatives? (Remember when outing a CIA agent was considered to be horribly evil?)

Sotomayor – Pretty Much Like I Thought She’d Be….

Posted by Duncan on 19th August 2009

Atleast she doesn’t shift the court further to the left…..

WASHINGTON — Ohio prison authorities confirmed Tuesday the execution of Jason Getsy, 33, who was convicted of the 1995 murder of a 66-year-old woman he shot while trying to carry out a contract killing.

Getsy was pronounced dead at 10:29 am (1429 GMT) local time after receiving a lethal injection at Lucasville prison, where Ohio carries out its executions.

On Monday evening, the US Supreme Court rejected Getsy’s final appeal 5-4, with newly-confirmed Justice Sonia Sotomayor in the minority as she cast her first vote on the court in favor of delaying the execution.

Yep. Taking the side of the douchebag man who was paid to kill a main (who survived) and then murdered his mother. And Getsy’s argument of why he shouldn’t be executed. Because the man who paid him to kill didn’t get the death penalty but simply life in prison with the possibility for parole after 20 years, which somehow had something to do with absolving the fact the Getsy himself chose to pull the trigger multiple times and kill an innocent woman.

Weak. And barely readable.

ALMOST IMMEDIATE UPDATE:

SAN’A, Yemen — A Yemeni security official says six other missing foreigners, including three children, have been found dead, bringing the total number to nine.

Well, there ya have it. The children were murdered as well. Animals.

ORIGINAL POST:

I thought that once Obama was elected to the Presidency ascended to the right hand of God, that they, the rest of the world, would just lay down their arms, stop their quarreling, buy us a Coke and sing in perfect harmony.

Yeah, how is that working out for us, or for these poor innocents:

SAN’A, Yemen — Three German women abducted in a group of foreigners last week in Yemen were found dead early Monday, their bodies mutilated, a Yemeni security official said.

Shepherds roaming the area found the women’s remains in the mountainous northern Saada province near the town of el-Nashour, known as a hideout for Al Qaeda militants, the official said. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to speak to the media.

The three women were among a group of nine foreigners, including seven Germans, abducted Friday in the remote area. The Interior Ministry said the foreigners, who were not identified by name, were kidnapped while on a picnic north of the capital, San’a.

In Berlin, the Foreign Ministry said it could not confirm the reports that the Germans had been killed. A spokesman, speaking on customary condition of anonymity, said that a ministry crisis team and the German embassy in San’a were working together to try and get more details.

Yemeni authorities said the group included a German doctor, his wife and their three children, as well as a Briton and his South Korean wife and two other German nationals. They were all working in a hospital in Saada, the state news agency said.

If the other two German nationals were women, than that means that the German doctor only lost his wife. If they were men, then the count of three women killed means possibly one or two of the children were killed as well. And then mutilated.

Note to American servicemen fighting Al Qaeda and the Taliban: If at all possible, take no prisoners so that you don’t have to worry about pulling out your miranda card and reading them their rights. As many headshots as possible please.

That’s right…

Posted by Duncan on 9th June 2009

you’d better wait until he’s dead to rob his house….

A New Orleans police sergeant who survived the D-Day Normandy invasion to battle criminals for 63 years in the city of New Orleans finally lost one to the bad guys last week — only hours after he died.

The burglars, two men and a woman, broke into Police Sgt. Manuel Curry’s house Thursday morning and stole several rifles and a handgun, along with jewelry, money and medication, New Orleans police said.

Curry, 84, believed to be the longest-serving active-duty police officer in the country, died of heart failure hours earlier, according to The Times-Picayune.

His widow Genevieve “Jackie” Curry, whom he was married to for 51 years, was at a funeral home planning her husband’s burial when she learned of the burglary, the paper reported.

God Speed Mr. Sgt. Curry. I’m sure if you were still on this Earth when these scumbags broke into your house, you’d have dispatched them like you did the Nazis at Normandy…

Another Horrible Shooting

Posted by Bigfoot on 1st June 2009

Earlier today, just one day after the fatal shooting of abortionist Dr. George Tiller, came another horrid act of violence. Two soldiers were shot, one fatally, as they stood outside a military recruitment center in western Little Rock, Arkansas. The suspect reportedly drove up in an SUV and started shooting. He was later apprehended after a brief pursuit. The two victims were not recruiters, but were just out of basic training, and participating in a program called “hometown recruiting assistance.”

Police say the incident occurred around 10:15 a.m. at a U.S. Army Navy Career Center inside the Ashley Square Shopping Center at 9112 North Rodney Parham Road. According to Lt. Terry Hastings with the Little Rock Police Department, two enlisted soldiers standing outside the office were hit when a suspect drove up in a black SUV and began shooting.

At a briefing Monday afternoon, Little Rock police chief Stuart Thomas identified the suspect as Abdul Hakim Mujahid Muhammad, 24, of Little Rock. Thomas says Muhammad also goes by the name Carlos Bledsoe.

The victims were William Long, 23, who was killed, and Quinton Ezeagwula, age unknown, who remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

A Lee Corso Moment?

Posted by Bigfoot on 9th May 2009

A few days back, I read a disturbing story about the arrest and detention of a North Carolina teenager name Ashton Lundeby. As reported by WRAL, Lundeby’s mother Annette claimed that the Patriot Act stripped him of his due process rights. WorldNetDaily also reported Lundeby’s arrest. The WRAL video report (included by WND) may also be viewed here.

“We have no rights under the Patriot Act to even defend them, because the Patriot Act basically supersedes the Constitution,” she said. “It wasn’t intended to drag your barely 16-year-old, 120-pound son out in the middle of the night on a charge that we can’t even defend.”

The allegations raised by these reports are indeed frightening. Did the Patriot Act actually excempt suspects from their constitutional rights if they can be classified as terrorists? It’s one thing to detain terrorist enemy combatants during wartime, since the rules of war allow nations to do so until the war ends. But this kid is presumably a US citizen, whose alleged offenses would make him a domestic criminal defendant, giving him the protections outlined in our Bill Of Rights. Did the Patriot Act suspend those rights for this teenager?
