Some verrrrry random thoughts on a cloudy and very humid Sunday afternoon.
The blueberry-pecan cake we baked yesterday was very good…except for the bloated, cultivated, controlled-growth berries themselves: THEY SUCKED! Nothing like real (i.e. SMALL) wild, blueberries, especially those from the fields in Maine.

This ship is still with us…barely. It is the SS United States. Like our current political situation, it is quickly rusting apart and will soon collapse into itself. There is a HUGE effort underway to restore the ship, to it’s original glory…but sadly not enough interest.

I don’t know why, but I have always liked white curtains. NOT drapes, GAWD NO I hate those. Sheer, billowing pure white curtains, lacy and otherwise. I don’t waste a lot of money on them either- Wal Mart sells a good enough selection for me. Easy to care for, SIMPLE, no fuss, and most of all, no drama.

Tomorrow is Memorial Day. Most folks will be celebrating the day with gatherings of family and friends, cookouts and all that. Somehow I cannot sit around on such days and stuff my face…or grill food. I have to DO something for the memory of those who died to defend my liberties and lifestyle. I’m working in the afternoon; but tomorrow morning right up til after noon I will be placing these wreaths on the graves of all the local men and women who have served and died defending freedom. Several friends and I spend a good portion of this past week putting these together. It’s the LEAST we can, don’t you say?
Make sure you think of those who are not with us; those who chose to enter a profession that took them to wars far away; where these brave souls did battle and probably died horrific deaths…just so that we could enjoy the pleasures of life- everything we do, we want, we have- we must be grateful to those who most likely never got the chance to experience. So think about them a lot tomorrow- and be in awe of their sacrifice for you.

Want to go for a little midday walk with me? Or better yet, how about a mid morning (fourwheel) drive?

Tomorrow one of my favorite PLACES to shop OPENS up for the season. It’s an old fashioned New England style farm- that sells produce, herbs, flowers and garden goods galore: Lull Farm in Hollis NH. When this farm opens up, it’s SPRING.
I’ll be one of the first customers at the door!

Winter. Is. Far. From. Over.
It’s been a few days since our last snow storm…
Wednesday will certainly be a stormy day. Snow will increase in intensity througout the late morning hours and continue into the early afternoon. As warmer air works into southern NH at mid levels of the atmosphere, the snow will likely mix with and change to sleet and freezing rain(mainly from Concord on south). 6 to 10 inches of snow is likely before the change to the icy mix with a chance of a quarter inch of ice on top of the snow. Across the rest of NH, precipitation will fall mainly in the form of snow.(although some sleet could mix in from just north of Concord into southern parts of the Lakes Region) Snow totals of between 10-16 inches is possible with a few spots getting close to a foot and a half
So my drive to work will be good but coming home, 3pm, will be FUN.
Like last time:

Teh weather outside’s gonna get frightful…before nightfall…and I’m SICK OF ALL THE DAMN ICE and SLOPPY, SLUSHY, SLICKERY. untreated, un-sanded, unsalted and barely plowed roads.
In all my life I have NEVAH seen the roads so BAD. Is it winter or is it the state’s very poor road care skills this year????
After a sunny start to Saturday, the next storm will approach later Saturday afternoon and Saturday night. Clouds, in advance of this system, will roll in late in the day(especially across southern NH). Snow will likely develop across central and southern NH Saturday Evening(right now the most likely start time is between 7-10pm, give or take an hour) with light snow showers or flurries arriving up north overnight. With a storm track now looking like it will pass through Long Island sound and Cape Cod, the precipitation will be all in the form of snow with southern NH getting into moderate-heavy bands of snow overnight. The good news is that it will be a light fluffy snow.
Any snow will end Sunday aftrenoon with some clearing late in the afternoon. Right now the most likely snowfall: Northern Coos County: 1-3 inches, Southern Coos County and White Mountains to the Lakes region: 3 to 6 inches, southern NH and northern MA: 5 to 9 inches.
Guess where I live??

I found an article at the NYT about desks. Yep. The boring desk- and the article bored me to no end as it was about modern plastic and steel, butt ugly, obnoxiously colored tables they call….recession desks.
(rolling my eyes) Do people really buy these things?? Check out the slide show and gag.
One of my hobbies is restoring furniture. Antiques in particular.

I’m a nut. I bought them. I’m building my collection…just in case.
This is perfect for me.
This is a 4″model, so it’s a little big-and not so easy to conceal…BUT I DO LOVE IT and I think it will be my FAVORITE. It feels so good in my hands…gungasm??? Oh yeah.

Much to the pleasure, I am sure, of many blogging friends, the Patriots will not be in the Play Offs this year…and therefore not at the Super Bowl.
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. – There was a remarkable 11-win season that not many thought possible after Tom Brady [stats] went down during the first quarter of the opening game of the season.
There was a valiant must-have, four-win December, capped off by yesterday’s 13-0 victory against Buffalo in wild and windy conditions that left the goalposts tipped over.
But there will be no playoffs for the Patriots.
Technically, Miami bumping off the Jets (24-17) and Baltimore beating Jacksonville (27-7) did the trick, leaving the Pats on the outside looking in when it comes to the postseason.
Being a loyal TEAM fan, I only watch the game when my team plays. They did very good this year- without Tom, and I’m proud of my team. I have season tickets to all of next yrs’ games though, and I’ll have the time to actually GO to the games and show my true fanskills. Until then, football season has ended in my house.
