A Hero’s Salute

Posted by Duncan on 10th July 2009

From Theo Spark:

Killed in action the week before, the body of Sergeant First Class John C. Beale was returned to Falcon Field in Peachtree City , Georgia , just south of Atlanta , on June 11, 2009 . The Henry County Police Department escorted the procession to the funeral home in McDonough , Georgia . A simple notice in local papers indicated the road route to be taken and the approximate time. Nowadays one can be led to believe that America no longer respects honor and no longer honors sacrifice outside the military. Be it known that there are many places in this land where people still recognize the courage and impact of total self-sacrifice. The link below is a short travelogue of that day’s remarkable and painful journey. But only watch this if you wish to have some of your faith in people restored.

If you are not moved by the video below, you are a sad, sad person…

June 6, 1944 – Operation Overlord

Posted by Duncan on 6th June 2009

Seasickness, fear
As the beach draws near
Overhead artillery booms
Illuminating Normandy’s morning
With the first flashes of battle.

The armada of a thousand ships
Create fear and resolution
in German defenders
Hope in French hearts ignite
Their resistance emerges into light,
Civilians pray these liberators prevail
In this the alllies
Greatest gamble

The Golden Anniversary of the Golden Knights

Posted by Bigfoot on 7th April 2009

Happy 50th anniversary to the U.S. Army parachute team, the Golden Knights.

The Golden Knights might show up at a college football game, or might take the time to escort a former president.

The army has a few good men too

If we had motivational speeches like this in our cities here in the U.S., they wouldn’t be free-fire zones. (H/T)

Though I wouldn’t call these Iraqi police “lazy” – rather they’re playing both sides of the street. This officer is calling them out to “choose this day whom they will serve”. Hmm, that phrase sounds rather familiar…

Wow. Simply Wow.

Posted by Duncan on 14th February 2009

Warning for lots of cursing and expletives being directed at the Iraqi Police by one very pissed off American advisor.

The Republican Party could have used a speech like this in… say… 2005 or so….

In Memorium

Posted by Duncan on 28th December 2008

Today is a day that I will not let pass without remembering a fallen friend, a man who was a devoted Christian and man of God, a soldier and patriot, and I have no doubt would have been an amazing husband and father.

US Army Captain Ernie Blanco, Texas A&M Class of 1997, was killed in Iraq on December 28, 2003, while on a patrol with the 82nd Airbone. He was traveling in an unarmored humvee when they were struck by an IED. On this day the United States, and the world in general, lost a great man. On this day, I lost a friend. On this day, a mom lost her son, a brother fell, and a fiancee lost her love. I will not let this be forgotten.

A sacrifice was made for this country, like so many others.

It will not be forgotten.

Here are some other links about Ernie:

The Original Obituary
Article from the Battalion, Texas A&M’s student paper

A tribute from his men (with pics from Iraq):

Captain Blanco loved to have a good time. He loved music and played the guitar at Chapel Service. He was loved by all who knew him and respected by those who knew him well.

We’d follow you to Hell, sir, but you damned sure didn’t go that direction.”

A memorial created by his mother, with a letter from his fiancee and from his sister.

And something new, that I didn’t expect. Apparently a friend of Ernie’s is creating life-saving combat medical equipment, with a new piece that he has named in honor of Ernie.

Ernie touched alot of people. We miss you Ernie. You will not be forgotten and we look forward to the day we will meet again.

A Soldier’s Christmas {holiday sticky post}

Posted by Duncan on 22nd December 2008

Let us remember that there are rough, tough American soldiers away from home, again, this Christmas. They stand in the gap for us, they protect us from the wolves who growl and lick their lips, wishing for our blood. These men and women, we owe them so much. Let us not forget them and their families. God Bless. And a Merry Christmas from those who love and respect you.

(Note: This is a sticky post. Newer Posts below.)

Y’all Got A New Writer

Posted by Texas Pundit on 8th October 2008

Hey everybody, this here’s the Texas Pundit.  A  Rip-Snortin, Gol-Darned, Gen-U-Wine Texican here to tell it like it is.  I’m no George Bush or Big Hair Perry, I’m more like Texas John Slaughter.  I’m conservative and damn proud of it. I’m a Texas Veteran and was stationed at Fort Polk and Fort Benning where I went to OCS.  I come from a long line of Army folk and I will be damned if I let anyone put down our military on any post I make, so don’t even try.  I don’t ranch, I don’t do Oil, I damn sure don’t do high falutin Houston Style and as far as I’m concerned, JR Ewing was a pansy that deserved shootin’.

I’ve been invited by the lovely and curvaceous Raven to join this rag-tag bunch of conservative misfits and I aim to take names and kick ass.  If you are one of them libruls you’d best have a good argument up your sleeve cause if you come around me and toss bull shit, I’ll delete your comment or better yet, re-organize it so that Karl Marx will think you are a conservative.

I can’t stand Mr. Obama, he is a damn socialist through and through and even more importantly, he is an empty suit.  He’s like ole George Bush, all hat and no cattle.  I don’t even like Senator McCain as he is far too librul for me.  Mrs. Sarahcuda however is just fine and I expect her to be the Presidential nominee of the Republican Party in 2012 unless John McCain gets up off’n his duff and starts openin’ a can of whoop-ass on Obama.  If he turns in more performances like he did last night he’s gonna lose and this country will survive four years of Obama, but it won’t be nice.

Now, I’m a-willin’ to bet that just because I talk this way, you folk may think I’m some dumb assed hick what wouldn’t know what teat to pull on a cow, but you gotta know that I’m well past drinkin age, I have an advanced degree and have owned corporations.  Still own one in fact.  Not a big one, not a great big money maker, but it’s all mine and that is more than Mr. Obama can say.  I know what it takes to make a payroll, I know what it means to make business mistakes and have to pay for my error.  I know what it takes to help people reach their potential, and by the sweat of their own work, not cause I gave them a handout.

I’ll be postin on this here blog from time to time, not necessarily any thing regular, and you can catch some of what I say over to my other site The Texas Pundit but mayhap if Miss Raven gives good back-rubs, I’ll stick around here.  Oh, and I’ll be usin’ regular English too, this was just an exercise in showin’ y’all my gen-u-wine Texas Bonafides.  We clear on ‘at?

Y’all will be gettin’ used to my sign off too — “At least that’s the way I see it on this side of the Pecos River.” So, you be sure and come back for some out-standin’ commentary and ideas you can take to the bank, and this bank never closes!

At least that’s the way I see it on this side of the Pecos River!
